Question about 97-98 Pinnacle Mint
How do you know the difference between all the different coins and stuff? On my Joe Thornton list I have the following
Brass
Brass Proofs /500
Gold Plated
Gold Plated Proofs /100
Nickel Silver
Nickel Silver Proofs /250
Solid Gold 1/1 COA
Solid Silver COA
Now I realize silver and nickel are much different then brass and gold but I can't tell the difference between brass and gold. I have looked it up on ebay and still no help. I could get a scan of the one I have right now if anybody would be able to help identify itLast edited by G0SHARKSG0; 05-09-2011 at 05:00 PM.

I would think brass and gold should be easier to distinguish than silver and nickel. Posting a pic would help to identify the one you have.

The Bronze were 2 per pack (1 in retail), Broze Artist Proof were limited to 500 and stated Artist Proof on the coin, Gold Plated were 1:199, Gold Plated Artists Proof were #'d to 100, Nickel Silver were 1:41 (or about every other box), Nickel Silver Artist Proof were limited to 250, and the Solid Golds were 1 of 1. I'm not too sure about the Solid Silver, however.
I hope this helps out some.

Solid golds and solid silvers were also available only via redemption and not actually packaged in the product. With the Pinnacle company not so much in the card business anymore, those coins are no longer in the boxes.
Anything plated, or artist proof has an inscription on the backside. For example, from a single pack I got of the product, I pulled a Mats Sundin Gold Plated Artist's Proof and it says the entire line on the back right below the Pinnacle Mint logo.

alright thanks a lot guys. I'm assuming mine is brass as it says nothing on the back and is probably just the common coin

digging through my old stuff and coming across these as the valiant effort they were, trying to figure out coins was painful
but yeah, if you know what you're looking for, it becomes fairly clear, but still.... ugh
