What would these cards grade at BGS?
All opinions welcome. Hoping for 9.5s!

Thanks

Id say they are both 9-9.5s unless there are hidden flaws. They are borderline in those grades id say.

westbrook - way to hard to tell through scans, especially with a magnetic......centering and surface are the toughest thing on chrome cards.....centering looks pretty good but surface is too hard to tell

I would not get your cards graded by BGS.
I have had more than a few problems with BGS and I will share them all with you once I can get them all down in a logical manner.
They have damaged several of my cards and then blamed me for the damage even when i showed them 300 dpi scans of before and after grading.
They have stolen money for services not rendered.
They play favorites to larger submitters.
They slab trimmed/altered cards and this is not just those uncut sheet cards. I talking actual regular cards.
I have lost faith in BGS. I would not submit any of cards to them. You would be taking a risk that your card will get damaged.

While I have no experience with BGS personally, I have heard alot of things simular to what you are saying in your post by other people. I have no doubt , obviously that a high grade by beckett helps a card's value but I have seen some badly centered cards recieving 9.5's and it does make me wonder how that happens. The grading they gave the Strasburg even with the flaws makes me wonder even more about thier integrity.
Muffinman- without seeing the cards personally I think it's real hard to give you an opinion bro, but if you're even thinking of submitting them then they must be in pretty good condition so they'll probably grade high
. Good luck bro

I posted this on another thread. Perhaps this will help a little.
I agree, their integrity is suspect at best, questionable at worst.

If you plan to keep these cards for your own collection, and you are happy with them, why do you need a grade to tell you how nice it is?
I have had over 500 cards graded by them over the past 8 years and their quality control has gone down the drain. I would say I agree with 25% of the grades I have seen by BGS. Some over-graded, some under-graded. I have had several of my personal collection graded and most of the time I really didn't care for the grade because I was getting them graded to keep. But when they damaged a few of my cards that I submitted for re-casing (meaning I didn't even handle the cards myself - they handled them at all times), and then they try to pawn the damage off onto me, I decided that perhaps the grading process really is not all that great. To top it off, I paid them to re-case several cards and 2 of them weren't even re-cased. When I brought this up to a manager, the manger basically said that I was being "too picky." But uhem, excuse me, but these are in the exact same case as I sent them in to you for re-casing. They basically told me to stop using them. They cashed my check and I am waiting for a refund.
I think you have to ask yourself, why do I want a card graded? If you plan to re-sell, then perhaps it is a good idea if you think you can get a 9.5 or 10. But if you plan to keep it, my advice, just buy a magnetic one-touch and a team bag. They look just as nice, you don't have to have someone telling you the amount you should like a card, and you will save yourself some major cash that can be used to buy more cards.
But, I have to say, most of the time when I buy a graded card off eBay, I am unhappy with the subgrades. I think they were either too lenient or too harsh. When they are too harsh, I'm happy because I think I got a good deal. When I get a too lenient grade, I am upset because I think I overpaid.
There are some good things about grading cards, but right now, I think there are just too many negatives, risks, and inconsistencies for me to spend my hard earned dollars of a service that doesn't have good quality control in respecting your cards, good customer service when you have a problem, and a service that charges $30 for return shipping via Ground FedEx.

Hey Joe,
I have seen PSA slab trimmed cards. There is a seller on eBay "cardboardngames" who consistently trims his cards. BGS has slabbed some of his but less recently. Perhaps BSG caught onto his scheme. But he still sells his PSA cards and those can be easily seen on his auctions as trimmed cards. Just look at the space around the card the the PSA holder. Easily 0.5mm more space on the side and top or bottom edge.
I caught onto this scheme a couple of years ago and I have altered my buying habits because of this.

There are a lot of sellers on ebay that trim cards, the grading companies can only catch what they find to be suspect.
Submitters to grading companies often get mad when they get a card back and it's "evidence of trimming" even though they pulled the card from the pack. Grading companies red flag these cards and don't grade them because the graders find something suspect about the card. They can be wrong on both sides of the spectrum...some trimmed cards pass and some untrimmed cards get called trimmed.
I asked that question tongue and cheek. I know for a fact that SGC and PSA grade trimmed cards. I just don't think it's fair to single out BGS if others are doing the same thing. People complain about BGS all the time, yet the "BGS results" posts FAR outweigh the "PSA results" posts. I attribute that to good customer service, better than PSA's. PSA is way more corporate. I'd like to quote a good friend, "Beckett is like a mom and pop shop".
For the record I grade my stuff with BGS and PSA.

Fair, that I didn't mention PSA or SGC, but this thread was about BGS so my response was tailored to BGS.
Yes, the spectrum is wide. But to me, that speaks to their inconsistencies.
BGS are supposed to "professionals" but what certification makes them a professionas? What degree did they graduate with to call themselves "professional"?
I used to be a staunch supporter of BGS, but when they damaged a few of my cards and then try and pin the blame on me when it was impossible for me to do, and then cash a check for services that were never rendered and then question my character, I have to reconsider how much I ever want to buy a BGS card or get a card graded by BGS.
Joe, I know you get a lot of cards graded as I have seen your cards on eBay and I have bought a few from you. Perhaps you can speak if there is a "bulk" submitter favoritism for higher grades? If you are willing to be as objective as possible.
