Trade posts - what do you think?
Hi.
I am new to the forums...finally getting around to creating an inventory and hopefully completing a few sets via trades, purchases, etc.
I plundered around a bit and came across a few trade posts that state that trades must work out in the OP's favor.
On one hand, I can appreciate someone letting me know from the get-go what it will take to complete a deal. On the other, I find myself wondering why others feel that their cards are more important/pricey than someone else's? Especially since it's the trade section.
I am curious to know what others think?

Welcome to SCF!
I would like to see some of these posts that you're referring to, because it's not something I've encountered.
There are situations in which a member will not be looking to trade down on a card unless there's extra BV thrown in, but that's somewhat expected. If I have a $100 card I'm unlikely to be happy with 5 $20 cards in return.
But as far as it being a normal policy - that would be highly unusual and prone to not working well.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Hi, RGM81.
Thank you.
I think I read two posts like that so they were definitely not the norm.
I was all over the forum reading yesterday (was adding to inventory and had another browser window open). I glanced around this morning, but to no avail.
The search feature returns numerous hits on folks wanting to trade in your favor, not the other way around.
(sorry - can't find 'em now - would have better luck if the search feature allowed an exact match on the search string)
I should have prefaced in my original post that I am a hobbyist that typically only builds sets (I'm 38 and most of my card collecting days are from my youth before many sets started including so many inserts and parallels). I went to my LCS a few years ago with the intentions of purchasing supplies to "organize" my cards and wound up starting 2008 Topps Chrome baseball and football sets instead.
I also do not have much "experience" trading cards in a public arena such as this.
Using your example, the value is the same to me. That being said, I could see extra "value" is needed since more work could be created in having to flip 5 cards (or potentially that the $100 single is from a harder to find set).
I hope my post didn't come across as a complaint. It was more of an attempt on my part to garner an understanding of the world of trading cards.Last edited by kevinh1919; 05-17-2011 at 10:14 AM.

Greetings my friend!
The world of trading cards huh.....or we can agree on the world in general as it is.
Everyone has their own ideas, desires, thoughts, etc and that drives the many different experiences.
So that can make things beautiful in some eyes as there's a lot to learn about people or on the other hand be kinda irritating.
I'd agree the norm is most deals will go pretty smoothly guaging from my little time here.
Unfortunately there's no solid standard as to how to deal and perhaps that's not all a bad thing.
Spontaneous working sometimes is fun eh!

I had a recent PM exchange on this topic that helped me garner an understanding of trading up/down.
Go Cocks!!!

Hello and welcome aboard, as fair as trading on SCF its fairly simple:
You have to send first until you get 20 Feedback, Pay 100% attention to trade offers because some people will try to pull on over on you.....never let yourself get bullied into a trade.....and state up front on how you prefer to trade either by Bookvalue or a Sell Value....I myself trade by personal value cuz a card might book for 50.00 and sell for 20.00 but If I don't want said card I have no problem trading down for stuff I want....I wish you luck and have fun trading!
