    Most common way to collect?

Do most of you collect base sets, inserts, players only or teams only or try for the base plus inserts of a set?

I'm primarily a player collector - my major priorities are Carey Price and Josh Gorges. I also collect other current and some retired Montreal Canadiens.

There really isn't a "most common way to collect" as every collector on these boards has a differing approach. There are some set builders and team collectors and player collectors, but just about everybody does it their way. That's the beauty of a hobby: there's no "right way" or "wrong way" to do it.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I collect certain players only. Some base cards of them but I'm starting to move away from any base. If a card catches my eye that isn't of someone I collect I will most likely pick it up if I can.

I collect any/all Osgoods, but until this year, I didn't collect 1/1s nor ones with card show stamps (Expo, "Big One", National, etc). I know other player collectors that only collect cards that don't collect anything rarer than /25, and some only collect a certain player with one team, etc, etc.

Another collection I have is OPC base cards of any/all Edmonton Oiler players. It's just a personal taste thing.

There are as many ways to collect as there are individuals. Like me, you may even change how you collect once you're into it.

I only collect "cup". I was all over the board with RC's Patches specific players and I got tired of the over saturation of everything and I only have cup cards now. I am building the sets including the base and pick up anything else I like but it has to be cup. I even sold all my vintage as it just seemed with ebay everything was to easy to get and it lost it's appeal to me.

I am strickly a rookie card collector. I love vintage O-pee-chee and modern Sp Authentic rookies. At one time I collected sets but with all of the SP's and autographs in the current sets I decided to shift my focus.

I collect my two players Irbe and Szuper, have a nice PC of Hurricanes cards that are all pack-pulled, or came in lots. Otherwise I open boxes and now either trade, or sell as many of the pulls as I can.

I am a player collector. I try to get almost anything with in a price I can afford. I collect Gary Roberts, Yzerman, and a few others. For sets I will try to get as much BTP stuff I like.

I'm a player collector, but like collecting Canuck cards as well, and any hard signed mid- (occasionally) high end autos or any really cool looking sticker autos.

I collect sets. I'm new to getting back into the hobby but sometimes its fun to chase down sets I've liked. This year I've done SP Game Used, SPX Finite, Crown Royal, and UD Series 1 & 2. Crown Royal is the only set I did that didn't include the big Rookie cards since they were well beyond my realisitic price range. Might try down the road to grab the set in time but no rush.

Its fun cracking stuff to do the Sets and of course deal the other stuff to Player collectors or other set collectors.
