Im Sorry for the Rant..BUT PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN TO SHIP CARDS

I have had many cards come in with open envelopes, broken cases, or not show up at all.

I have learned a few tricks that might help, might not but I'll lend the advice if anyone could use it.

I always make my shipping charges reflect what it will take to actually ship the card. I have 3 or 4 cards right now that need $5 to ship them but they are like a quarter inch thick and come in a $3 case. I try to take in what it will take to properly ship cards and reflect that in the rates, period.

I would be upset too cause there are many ways he could have shipped properly. I don't like giving out 100 toploaders either but there are the thick cases that will hold like 50 or more cards. If I have a ton to ship I use them, save on my toploaders and they are actually thicker too so it is probably better that way.

Another thing I have found out and do is taping the outside of the envelope. Tape the card in the middle of a long envelope and leave it loose so it can be moved to one side. Tape the entire outside of the envelope, this protect it when it goes through their machine. I get torn envelopes all the time but none of mine ever get torn, I always get positive feedback for my packing.

Try to explain the situation to the next buyer, tell them you want things packed right and you are going to have to pay for that. If a guy sells 60 cards and ships for $3 that is going to get you cheap packaging if any at all. Offer to pay $5 for something like that for it to go in a flat rate box, then packing materials or weight won't matter

I'm going to disagree a little bit with the shipping sentiment here. If I have a large lot of cards to ship, I'm not going to put every one in a soft sleeve and top loader. My standard way of shipping large lots is single out any particularly expensive cards if there are any and put those in soft sleeves and top loaders. The rest go in a hard plastic case. with decoys lining the top and bottom and maybe some soft plastic to act as a buffer. I'll then tape the case shut to prevent it from opening, put it in a box, surround it with paper or something else to keep it secure and seal it up.

As a seller who has over 1,000 positive feedback between here and ebay, I would hardly consider this sub-standard. Especially when nowadays buyers expect you to ship everything for as inexpensive as possible. If a buyer wants every card in a lot in a top loader or some other specific request, the buyer should make that aware from the beginning and be prepared to pay more to compensate the seller for the time and resources this will cause. If I'm making .73 per card on a lot I know is going to turn around and get flipped, I'm not going to be too thrilled to go above and beyond to help the flipper make more money...

I actually think there should be a sticky in our forum for packaging methods, where everyone puts forward their ideas. It would sure help out especially new traders.

I've had tons of ebay sellers ship without putting extra attention into their packaging. I can sure tell they don't belong to any trading forum of any sort, and don't have the access to info like we do.

I personally go overboard. Each individual card I send is penny sleeved, in a top loader, and put in(open end of top loader in first) into a team bag. I then tape the team bag to a thin piece of plywood. Mail away in a bubble mailer. I don't send taped top loaders if I can help it.

I have seen how some letter carriers bend up their bundles, even though it says do not bend on the package. So seeing that I have access to limitless supply of lumber, and I care how it gets to my recipient. I am going to guarantee not a single card I send is bent, crinkled, kinked, or fudged!

I love this site and this isnt going to make me stop using it, I guess i need to be very specific when I make trades in how I want them shipped even though 95% of members on here respect there stuff or recently traded stuff.

Two things,

1) I bolded the statement you made about being specific about the shipping method. If you do this there should be no reason why your cards do not arrive safe and sound when specifying this. Just make sure when you post in the trade manager you detail and outline how you want the card shipoed. I do this from time to time when members asked me to send in the PWE as I know cards can get damaged. If the cards or cards get damaged in the PWE at least I have a post showing where the member said they wanted it in a PWE.

2) Remember if the deal was posted here the seller/trader does have a responsibility in getting the cards to you in good condition, If that did not happen you have the right open a dispute.

I I don't think the member would be dissatisfied if the cards were shipped as you said you ship them. The problem is the bolded sentence below.

One had over 60 yg's and there was no top loaders...NONE... NO PENNY SLEEVE, JUst all of them wrapped in a team bag all corners exposed. I know im paying only $1 for each card but seriously if im shelling out $60+ I want my cards protected.

I`ll add one tip that I`ve been using for a while -- when I ship out any nicer cards - ones that warrant a brand new toploader - I use a piece of painters masking tape to close the top , leaves absolutely no residue on the toploader when you take it off -- I dont know how others are but i like all my PC cards to be in nice new toploaders for viewing purposes and such -- it always hits a nerve when I pick up a nice PC card and the seller or trader takes the time to put it in a new holder but then messes it up by using cheap stickey tape that you just cant get all the gunk removed off the case --- if you are using old/used / scratched toploaders to protect cards for shipping and such then i couldnt care what tape is used but if using a nice shiny new one- spend $1 on a roll of painters tape and you can safely seal probably 1000 holders with no residue -- rant is over - time to sleep .........

one more thing -- team set bags save cards !!!!! We had some very bad thunderstorms come thru today and of course as soon as I pull in the driveway I see the mailbox door has been blown open -- and i can see a padded envelope inside -- i inch my way cautiously and reach for it .. and yep .. its pretty wet . I see the return address and know whats inside - a group of about 15+ preds cards with about 1/2 of them finding a home in my PC -- I get inside the house and carefully open it up -- moisture abounds -- but thanks to .10 worth of team bags all the cards were perfect , with no moisture at all --- so whenever shipping cards please please always use a team bag , or some sort of sealable packaging as a bit of extra protection on the cards -- because you never know what kind of weather that envelope or box may run into --

you're not :out to lunch" at all. If you are going to sell anything and ship it you need to figure out a way to protect it. A seller can protect 50-60 cards with one team bag and two toploaders and some tape. It's not that difficult or expensive.

You say it's just a hobby and you shouldn't get so mad, but you have every right to be upset about spending money and time on anything and getting damaged goods in return. I'd definitely get the sellers to refund your the prorated amount of payment back to you for the damaged cards. Once they take a $20-$30 hit because of their negligence they will get the message that they need to learn how to properly ship a card.
