    Decisions, decisions, decisions...

    Hey everyone,

My wife told me today that her and my boys wants to get me a box of cards for Father's Day. She's letting me pick it out.

Now, I'm looking for a box that has very little base, atleast four hits (if not more), and the hits aren't all going to be rookies (like I've seen in some absolute breaks). It doesn't have to be from this year. It could be any year. Any suggestions?

Interesting choice. I might. What is everyone's thoughts on the Gold Standard box? Would the gold card or video video card be worth trying to chase?

I would go with one 10/11 Ultimate and one 09/10 Panini Hall of Fame. You'll end up with three autos, one jersey or patch, and around 10 base cards. You'll have a shot at MJ, LeBron, Bird, Magic, Dr. J, Rose, etc. in Ultimate and there are a ton of HOF-type players in HOF with an outside shot at a Dream Team auto of Bird, Magic, Pippen, Mullin, Drexler, or Stockton. The break will cost roughly $115, otherwise known as the price of a standard junky four hit Panini box.

Is this because of the good rookie class? What about 07-08 stuff?

I like the Hall of Fame break. I just don’t like getting the coaches and female athletes. Don’t get me wrong the female athletes and coaches did some great things in basketball. I’m just not interested collecting those type of cards.

What’s wrong with the Gold standard? Too gimmicky?

DO NOT go for 10/11 Ulitmate. Def. try to stay away from any upper deck products from 10/11. Hall of fame rarely doesn't get you anything valuable unless you strike lucky with a HOF patch or a popular name. Usually autos from HOF don't sell well, even if they are on card.

If you want to spoil yourself I'd do 08/09 Sp game used, 09/10 National treasures, or 06/07 Ulimate Collection, but those are pretty high end, around $300 dollar range.

However if you're looking more around in the $100s, I think the best Panini product I've seen from this year is Timeless treasures and Limited. They have the best looking cards by far and have a lot of good hits, I think 3 or 4 in each.

You should consider gold standard too. Looks sick.
