    Padres in MN

Spent the entire weekend up at Target Field watching the Twins win and graphing San Diego. Was great to see my favorite player Pat Neshek back in town and meet him yet again.

    Day 1

Not much quantity tonight, but I had fun.

Dbopickle25 and I decided on our lunch break at work that we'd go up to the game today. I spent most of the car ride putting cards in my binder, a little under prepared! Got great seats (Sec 120, Row 2) on Stubhub for well under face value.

Pat, Headley, Ludwick, Maybin, and a couple other players I wanted all said they'd sign after they changed in the dugout...the usher decided to kick us out before they came back out, which was very disappointing.
But, before we left Heath Bell came over and signed my 8x10. Awesome shot. Cory Luebke signed 2/2 cards.
The guy next to me had some sweet game used stuff. He was trying adamantly to get Mat Latos to sign a GU minor league jersey:
Guy: Mr. Latos, can you please sign?
    Latos: "Naawh"
    Guy: "After BP?"
    Latos: "Naawh"
    Guy: "Tomorrow?"
    Latos: "Naawh"
    Guy: "Sometime this weekend?"
    Latos: "Naawh"

Game was great. Twins put up a 5-spot in the first inning. Pat Neshek pitched well (I gave him a standing O by myself when he came in), Duensing, Perkins, and Capps all pitched well for the Twins.

After the game, Heath Bell was coming in from the bullpen, heading to the dugout, and there were two little kids by the dugout in Padres uniforms. They asked him if he could sign their hats. Most players would have ignored them in that situation, let alone after a tough loss. Instead, Bell said he'd be right back, disappeared into the clubhouse to get rid of his equipment, and came back out and signed for the kids. He was just hanging around on the field waiting for his family/friends who had been in the stands, and signed up a card for me. Seems like an awesome guy.
Then headed up to the postgame show to get Ron Coomer. He only did 1/4 for me, which was a bit disappointing.

Hopefully can add some more tomorrow, taking my father to the game. Then rounding off the series Sunday with a buddy. Hopefully the rain stays away like it did tonight.

    Day 2

I've officially seen both sides of Latos.

Got to the game early again today, was drizzling and expected to storm. I wasn't optimistic as I didn't expect many players to sign in the rain (especially when I only got two players yesterday in nice weather) or many items to turn out if they got wet.

The first player to stop and sign today? Mat Latos.
Came over, signed the GU jersey for the guy trying to get it yesterday, signed a card for me and continued signing down the line. Went in the outfield to throw and stretch and signed for fans in the left field bleachers, then signed more for fans in the left field corner. On his way back into the dugout, came and signed for me a second time, this time signing an 8x10. Stayed and chatted for a few fans about his impression of Target Field and his tattoos. I could have gotten him a third time later as he signed again, but I was happy with two.

They cancelled BP because of the rain, so none of the position players were around. But all the pitchers were stretching, running, throwing in the outfield.
    Totals:
    Mat Latos 1/2 cards, 1/1 8x10
    Clayton Richard- 1/2 cards
    Dustin Moseley-2/2 cards
    Cory Luebke-2/2 cards
    Wade LeBlanc-2/2 cards
    Heath Bell-1/1 card
Pat Neshek-10/10-6 8x10s, 4 cards. Pat could not have possibly been cooler. Had no problem at all knocking out all 10 items for me and signed up an absolute storm. Gave one of the cards to a young kid who was trying to get Pat on his game giveaway cowboy hat and somehow missed him.
Orlando Hudson-2/2-I've heard that O-Dog is impossible in-person, but he signed an 8x10 and card for me.

Ron Coomer-Postgame-3/3 4x6s. Ron took a picture with me and three friends after a game last year, so I got a copy signed for each of us.

I'm pretty sure that's a new single-day graphing record for me-24 signed items. On top of all the graphage, the rain stayed away and Scott Baker threw an absolute gem, striking out 10 over 8 shut out innings. Twins won 1-0.
Headed back up for the finale tomorrow, but after today, I'm almost out of items to get signed

    Day 3 with the Padres.

Met up with Fixxxer before the game for a Drew Butera Fan Club meeting.

Lower quantity than yesterday, but still a fun day at the ballpark.

    Pat-1/1
    Ryan Ludwick 1/2
    Chase Headley 1/2, 1/2 (help)
    Brad Hawpe 1/2
    Anthony Rizzo 1/1-Padres team card
    Evan Scribner-1/1 Logo card
    Tim Laudner 2/2

Yesterday, Scribner was coming in from stretching, and the guy next to me from San Diego who had been helping me identify players said "That's Wade LeBlanc". So I whipped out my LeBlanc cards. Scribner was walking slowly down the line, like he was waiting for someone to ask him to sign. He saw me with my cards and sharpie out, and without me even asking came over to sign. Grabbed my book, all excited, looked down and goes.."Oh, that's not me... But that's okay, it happens a lot, I don't have many cards out." Had the heartbroken look on his face like a kid who had dropped his ice cream cone. Rookie mistake on my part. So I made sure I had something for him to sign today. He looked pretty happy when I called him over.

Before the game, Nishioka and Casilla were long tossing down the line. One of Nishi's throws went over Casilla into the stands, hitting a young girl. They both ran over to make sure she was okay and then each gave the girl one of their bats. Thought that was a nice gesture on their part.

Another great game. Liriano k'd 8. The Drew walked off in the bottom of the ninth.

Congrats wonderful haul, wish I had the permission to do a whole series (wife) Padres are cool. Last year got Heath Bell on a ROMLB SS at AT&T. If we make it to a pads game I gotta def try for a Latos HATE FRISCO SS. As a Giants fan that would be one nice piece of memorabilia ;) GO GIANTS!

I've heard some real horror stories about Latos..and wasn't expecting to get him this weekend. One of the days, outside on the plaza, he rode with Logan Forsythe to the park. Forsythe stopped and signed for a few minutes and Latos just stood there waiting for him, watching him sign, but refusing to sign for anyone. But, he was real cool Saturday inside.

This post made me want to send a TTM request to Evan Scribner...which I think I'm going to do. Congrats on some cool stuff, though! Glad Neshek is back in the majors...

Do it! Scribner mentioned that he doesn't have many cards out..so I'm thinking of making a custom or two of him and sending them to him.
