Asleep at the wheel!
Auction comes up on eBay for an Evgeny Artyukhin Black Diamond Jersey Gold card #'d to 10.

Have been searching for this card and never seen one. The bids are way below my limit and I am certain that I will win this auction. I check the auction with two hours left and the bids are still low. Being the dummy that I am, do I put in a bid to secure the high bidder status? No, I decide to wait until the last minute and snipe the bids.
Predictably, I space out and totally forget about the auction until 20 minutes after it has ended. The winning bid was well within my limit. I could have had this card for a bargain. Well, that leaves 9 others out there. Hopefully I won't have to wait another 6 years to get a shot at one!
Note to others: If you have an important auction you are bidding, set your cell phone alarm to go off 10 minutes before it closes. Even if you forget the auction, the alarm will remind you. I learned the hard way!Last edited by RGM81; 06-24-2011 at 01:20 PM.

Why not use a sniping service? Set your bid and forget it. There are a ton out there that offer free snipes...

Ah, there's a feeling many of us know all-too-well. The worst one for me was a Carey Price Ice Signature Swatches - went out for a walk, came back 5 minutes too late. Final sale price? $10.50
YouTube's blocked at work so if someone wants to queue up the Price is Right Fail Horn, now's your opportunity!
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

So is shill bidding, and I've had too many of my winning bids bumped up by the same person who magically removed his last bid after my max was realised.
Want to beat me? Bid more than me, I say! :)

I have an iPod touch with an eBay app, it sends notifications for watched items 15 minutes before the auction ends. I hate when you're not at home and you forget about an auction only to see later that it sold for much less than you would've paid. That's happened to me plenty of times....

That sucks! Like a few people mentioned, a lot of us have been there and it hurts when it happens.
Gladly!

Agree about the iphone app, its great to keep track of things.
I just don't understand the bid sniping or waiting for the last minute either. I see a card I like, I bid on it for the max amount I would pay. If I win, great, if not then it was out of my price range anyways.

I feel your pain. I never use snipping services, which maybe I should because Ive been known to fall asleep and miss an auction.
