I was a Season's Ticket holder in Wpg. for the last 8 years of their existence. The fans identify with "The Jets" and only "The Jets"
No mistake made whatsoever. They'd be upset with a new name, trust me. Also....they sold 13,000 Season Tickets in 4 hours with No Name, so where is the fail in that?
I agree that they blew it with the draft. Not as big a mistake as Wayne Gretzky. They could have had Gretzky inked when he was 16 and they blew it.
The Jets were the first Pro Team to ever show interest in Gretzky but could not match the money he was going to get from the WHA. This is why Gretz became interested in the Coyotes, he always remembered how fondly the Jets organization had thought of him before and during his career, and he always wanted to be involved wherever the franchise ended up.

let me clarify things for some of you, as no offense but some of the things that have been said here make no sense
1. jets name
from living in winnipeg i will personally tell you that the team probably would have lost revenue having not naming it the jets. while this may be a stretch, the public outcry was enormous and they really had no choice. the go jets go, everywhere you go is the first big one. but on every poll and every topic whether it was the talk of the team, or the announcment of the head coach, nobody talked about the head coach, all that was on tsn, and the talk of the town, was name it the jets. many people tuned in to the draft to see the name announced, and didnt even care who was drafted. sure there were a few out there who wanted a new name, and to be honest i was looking forward to it at first. but there was no way it could of happened, and this city i a city with jets in its culture, nothing else fits. i will honestly tell you if it were falcons, there would be enourmous amounts of booing, and way too many fans dissapointed. at the first game, half the arena would be fans with old jets jerseys, and the arena would chant go jets go. i dont support that, it is just whhat would of happened. and we still get a fresh start, we get the name jets, and we get a completely new jersey. It has already been confirmed that we will recieve a new look, color, logo, everything is new, except the name, and thats the way it should be
2. mark sheifele
While i was disapointed with the selection, i have began to grow to love the pick, and think couturier might not be all that. i mean something is wrong if you fall through to 8th. he was going downhill in the latter part of the season, and this sheifele is on the rise, and he looks like he is amazing. we drafted burmistrov and little from the same minor club, and dale hawerchuk is the coach and he said he saw amazing things from him. he just needs time to develop, hes got no weaknesses. keep in mind the team was terrible, (15 wins) and he was a good player on a losing team, so makes it hard to get points in that environment in some cases. i think there is many up sides, and i dont have a problem with a risk. their have been many surprises (datsyuk, zetterberg, holmstrometc.) and i think they just shook it up.
trading burmistrov, kane amd 1st would have been a mistake, and clearly philly was just trying to take advantage of new ownership, because there is no way they could have been serious.
