Wait for the SP Authentic auto/patch - if it's this year's /25, those things are selling like crazy. It will be worth the wait. Hopefully he'll be getting back to signing soon as he's been cleared to do his regular off-season workout routine.

Hmm, I think I'll call in on Tuesday and see about a replacement... of course ask for something of the same caliber of some GU+Auto.

I would ask for a non-letter replacement if it were up to me. Lettermarks autos are barely legible as it is, Crosby's auto doesn't fit well onto a tiny letter. I know the promise of a Crosby auto is tempting but I don't think the quality of the card and signature is worth it. Maybe they can spot you a different Crosby auto? That would be a fair replacement.

Well I called UD... this is what is now going to happen:
Not getting the lettermark Au.
Will get a Patch Hard-Signed Auto card from the 09-10 season
of comparable value.
Expected time is 2-4 wks. Still sooner than when Sid can
get around to getting the lettermark to sign anyways.
Thoughts?

That's great news - hopefully it is indeed a Crosby "of comparable value" and not some random individual that they decide is on Sid's level.
