Who should I collect???
I am looking to start collecting someone new in football. Not interested in any new rookies or anything like that. I am leaning towards Jim Brown. I was also thinking about Peyton Manning. I already collect Barry Sanders. I also dont want to collect anyone super high end like Walter or Emmitt. So tell me who u collect or if u have any ideas.

I'd collect a more regional type player. Maybe a fav favorite form your favorite team or a decent star that went to your favorite college. manning would be hard to collect if you were looking to get low numbered and auto cards of him.
for example, if your favortie team happens to be the colts, collect a guy like freeney, wayne (although he's getting more run every year), or maybe even a guy like dallas clark.
Great defensive guys are also kind of easier to come by and cheaper in comparison to the top teir offensive guys.
if you want to collect a top tier star...Manning would be a good choice. I like Tomlinson too.
good luck.

How about Joe Montana? His prices are reasonably low, maybe too low considering what he has accomplished. Not a record-breaker, but he does boast 4 rings.

I think we would need more info from you to help you determine this. Where are you from, who do you cheer for, where do you live, etc? I think your profile states you were born in '78. If so, you could collect a player from one of that year's championship teams (i.e. Dorsett, "Reggie", Unseld or Gretzky). According to your profile, you already collect some great players...maybe you should just follow a young prospect or two and see how that goes. The bottom line is for you to collect something YOU ENJOY!
Peace,
Steve

well if you are collecting top teir guys, I'd go with a QB for sure. at the very least a RB. I'd say Manning or Brady are good choices.

Great points, and I was just thinking about this over the week-end. I watched a Cubbies game, and was really impressed with their line-up mainly Aramis, Lee, and Burnitz. Guess my point.....wish I could follow them as I'd happily collect Cubs. Kinda outtasight outtamind :)
As it is... living in N.MI I just stick to the players of my youth..and a few young prospects I get to see on cable. Espn highlights BLah!!
Oh Good Luck RMgibson check the MLByoungamerica sites, and follow a few players. Or go vintage ;)
LMAO...I got off track SORRY!!
Oooops....I do follow the Lions, and my Old Faithfull STEELERS!! So pick a player from the team of your youth..you won't regret it!!!

Yeah in football collect the player who you enjoy watching the most. Maybe the superstar of your favorite team if you want someone who has high value. Manning is always a goodo choice who has been mentioned, Favre is always a popular choice even though he will be retiring soon and also Michael Vick cards carry a nice value. I personally collect Chris Chambers because im a huge Dolphins fan and he's my favorite player, but im also picking up some Ronnie Browns now but gonna wait awhile and hope more of his stuff becomes more affordable. Good luck with whomever you choose to collect and enjoy it.

ms- i thought about montana but i hate the niners and have no real attachment to him.
heroes- those are things to think about. i am from the seattle area and like those teams but none of the players. this is for football so the others from 1978 dont apply but that is a good idea for others in my situation.
everone else- manning is still up there. favre is too pricy. vick is a hit or miss guy. i tend to look for the sure thing like HOF'ers. i dont have an attachment to anyone in football. thinking i may just bag fb all together and collect magic johnson instead.

Aha, well if you are in the SEATTLE area, you are very fortunate to have several successful pro franchises to choose from. If you are sticking with only football, then the Seahawks are a winner in my book. I recall when they entered the league. Although I was born in northern VA, by the time I returned to that area, I had spent 6 years in Anchorage, AK. Anyhow, EVERYONE picked up on Tampa Bay because they were east coast and in the NFC (you must know that the Seahawks were originally in the AFC West), while I pulled for the Seahawks. I still have a vintage pennant! I was pumped that Zorn was their QB (an ex-Cowboy - MY favorite team) and they even looked like Dallas with the silver, blue and green. I loved the 'Hawks and even pulled for them in the '83 Playoffs against MY Raiders (my favorite AFC team, but a quantum leap below the 'Boys). I still have over 20 years worth of their football cards and I can't really justify why!?! You cannot go wrong with STEVE LARGENT and if he stays with the team, SEAN ALEXANDER could end up among the NFL's best ever running backs! The only "downside" I can see to collecting the local team, is the area PRICES will be higher. You may be better off TRADING with someone out of state - preferably on the east coast! If we keep in touch, I can hook you up with some great old cards I currently have in storage. Just remember, collect something YOU ENJOY! (Sorry this was long-winded, that's just me!)
Peace,
Steve
