Trader Etiquette: Cool or uncool?
First off, I'm not sure if I spelt Etiquette right????
Second off, heres the deal. A guy makes a post (on a different site mind you!) with some cards for sale. I'm the second person to respond in the thread and the first about the $3 card I want. I tell him I want it, and ask him to email me. I make a major mistake and wander off to look at some other threads. I come back in ten minutes max and see that somebody else also likes the card. After the other person's interest, the seller says that the first person to email him and pay for the card gets it. So I email him, and he responds, "dude i told you all who ever pays first gets the goods. sold to this other guy on there" And then he goes right into trying to sell me another card for $25. Now I understand about deadbeat bidders and stuff, but I was given 10 minutes to see his response and email him. Is this rude, or would this be considered fair? I thought it was very lame. Especially over $3.

i can see where you both come from.. however i would have to take the cash and run... too many times people (myself included) say they will pay and never do. although i also think he should have given you first shot at it

i understand why a seller would do something like that, just wanting to sell the card, and as fickle as most buyers are, what they want now they may not buy later. so time is of the essence.
but it's complete and utter rubbish. common courtesy, especially if someone says, "i will buy this card from you", not "what's your price?", to let them have their fair shot at actually buying the card.
but i also reckon it'd be common courtesy to leave feedback after a deal is completed, or to actually send the funds when you agree to purchase something...yet i have had those situations happen probably a dozen times, all told, and i haven't been around real long. ah, well. to err is human. and there will always be another deal somewhere else.
my two insomnia-addled cents.

I think he should've given you a decent timeframe for response.

I would personally deal with the first person that responded. Plus if someone tells you that the first person to pay gets it....what if both pay atthe same time? Then the seller has to hassle with refunding money and paying extra paypal fees...if they have a fee account. Seems like it would just be easier to run an ebay auction instead. Although someone probably shouldn't waste their time trying to sell a $3 card on ebay but you get my point.

Well first come first serve I always say. If I'm selling people always say he can I get this and I say ok then I hear well I can't pay for 2-3 days? Then why ask so I can maybe sell it to you? Its simple some people leave messages and never come back to them. I would have done the same thing. Sorry but business is business and they are my cards. Plus if someone such as your self truely wanted it that bad you should have pm'd him! Just my opinion

definately true...on the message boards you have to figure a certain percentage of deals just won't happen for various reasons.
This is not really etiguette, but kind of frustrating. Why is it that some people who are selling cards on message boards will post their list, then when you pm them about what their asking price is...they ask you the same question for an offer. I feel that they should know what they want for their stuff. I understand the negotiation aspect, but if they had asking prices on their stuff, you can tell easily if you would want to deal with them. If they are more than what you want to pay, you can just move to the next seller list without wasting pm time. oh well, just my pet peeve so to speak.

I completely agree with Star Cards, and I think that business is no excuse for this. If you're running a business per say, go sell your cards on E-bay or open an online shop. Bad buyers do exist everywhere, at the same proportion of bad sellers. This is one of the reasons it's getting more and more difficult to deal everywhere. Sellers get frustrated beacuse of deadbeats, and start acting like this to "protect" themselves, but they're nothing but venting their frustration on other buyers, who, in turn, feeling they're not being well treated, will start doing the same thing when they have to sell something. See the cycle? Of course not everyone does that, but hey, it's enough people to keep the numbers growing.
Bottomline is bankbordr, try to get to know the seller's policies before buying stuff (or trying to) . Then it is your choice to either deal with him or not.

I usually try to make a deal with the first person and contact the second person to tell them it is pending. If I can't make a deal then I go to the next available option. In my opinion this seller did the wrong thing. He should have given you first shot at paying for the card...what if both of you paid at the same time?
