Registered shipping and expectations
Just looking for some input regarding a couple of deals I currently have going.....
I purchased a few cards (one transaction) on Ebay from a person with whom I have also dealt on another big hobby site. This person lives in the U.S., so I paid for registered mail. No tracking number was posted on Ebay, so I have e-mailed this person multiple times for said number with no success. It has now been 32 days since the sale, so my window of opportunity on opening a Paypal claim is getting smaller. I can't imagine that this person, based on past experience, would not send the cards but it still bothers me that I have not had any response.
Anyway, the bigger issue here is tracked shipping and communication. I have two other Ebay deals where I paid for the faster/tracked shipping but have received no word, and one of those has been ongoing for about three weeks. By contrast, I have made major purchases from a user on this site (kovyheater) and on HI where the sellers have sent the information immediately without having to be asked.
Am I being unreasonable to expect that someone should automatically send you - or at least post in the deal/sale - the tracking information when you pay more for shipping? It just seems like both common courtesy and good business.

I completely agree with you and try to do exactly that for people I deal with...or atleast respond to messages

On the trade manager it has a spot to put the tracking number. It should be done without asking if you paid for it.

I may seem too eager or excited about these things as well, but I do expect sellers or traders to make sure both parties know the whole transaction process from the items in the deal to the tracking number and shipping methods.
I think it is a common courtesy and in some cases a requirement. You fulfilled your part of the deal and it is right for the other individual to do the same thing by providing all the information he can give. Once that package leaves the person's hand with all information provided can he deemed fulfilled for the shipping procedure.
I really don't enjoy chancing people for things that I should be given. Simple as that.
I do my very best to make sure we fully understand so that any question marks can be answered and that I have completed my responsibilities for the trade.
If I am going away for a trip, came back from a trip and what not, I make sure my traders or buyers know before hand so that I don't get these exact problems of people missing in action. It takes a few secs on the computer to say "I will be away and right now our trade is at __________"
This goes for eBay as well. If you want me to pay for an item, provide me a final invoice including shipping so that there isn't any surprises about mispayment and such.
Lastly, one thing that bugs from time to time is shipping (for items that require more than normal shipping). I am not targeting anyone as I do understand somethings are out of control, but what annoys is when requesting a specific shipping method and paying for that option, the seller replies and says ok. The next thing you know they don't ship the way you wanted. They always go "I don't know, I dropped it off at the PO and that is what they said is correct."
To be very honest with all those feedback scores I see people one eBay have and the number of successful transactions, one would seriously think they know which option is which and doesn't rely 100% on the people at the PO. Not everyone working at the PO knows what they are doing or sometimes people at the PO hears you wrong. I just wish people would double check with them before they leave and go home... then realizing after the package is gone.
Once again, no hard feelings against any I have ever dealt with. Excellent and first-class all the way. Maybe it is just me but this is what bugs me at times on a personal level.
BTW: It's no one here on the boards: SCF, HI, or CnC. Cheers! Mainly ebay issues.
LOL, wow I wrote a lot but these threads these day do provide me some interesting things to write about.
Anyone feel the same?Last edited by Yipper; 07-27-2011 at 08:20 PM.

You said it best when you said, "common courtesy and good business practice".
My personal shipping expectation increases as the value of the card does. As a minimum he/she should communicate. You are well within the bounds of being frustrated in my opinion.

Craig, when you do the packing slip with paypal, it automaticly sends an email with tracking...
But if you just go to canada post, Yes you should email the buyer the tracking..

It was an Ebay purchase sent using USPS to Canada, and still no package or any follow-up/answers to my inquiries.
I actually have two outstanding, one from June 20th and another from July 4th. Both could be hung up in Customs, but without any information from the buyer I soon will be forced to file a Paypal claim.
