Would a players Auto matter ?
Would you collect or not collect a player because of their auto ?
Was considering adding Ryan Strome to my personal collection once his cards hit the market, but thinking if his auto is this weak right now, what will it be like it a couple of years (already noticing lazy changes to Tavares' auto)

I actually don't mind his auto, but personally when it comes to me the auto doesn't matter as much as the player does. I collect because I like the player, not because I like his auto

I don't think I'd go quite to that extent - heck, my #2 PC guy hasn't had an autographed card since 07-08, and those were just the last of his stickers from his rookie year. Carey's auto dropped a fair bit in quality in 08-09 but it's got much better again.
If I already did collect a guy, I'd be very disappointed to see that his auto was weaksauce.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Chris Stewart probably has one of the worst autos i've ever seen lol, but i collect him cause he's one of my favorite players and i enjoy watching him play, not cause of the auto.....his auto isn't too bad actually, definitely have seen worse.

Well, I collect Hall and E. Kane, so both of their autos are pretty reasonable, but I am still very picky when picking up cards to make sure the one I buy has a perfect auto, expecially for the more expensive cards.
I don't mind that Strome auto, just focus on getting the autos that look nice. Keep in mind they sign anywhere from 99 to 999 in each rookie set, so there are always quite a few that turn out really bad when he gets tired of signing or lazy, so just find the better ones.

I think a nice auto can make a card look better (a guy like Joe Thornton comes to mind), and I might hold on to one here and there because of it, but I don't think I would collect (or not collect) a player because of it

I would never collect stewart or leino, even if they were my favourite player because there auto isn't much...
But if their auto is decent and I like that player, i would probably collect him.
cheers,
andrew

Have to post the link since card hasn't arrived yet...but I am very disappointed with Hamonic's auto as well but going to continue collecting in hopes he comes around and signs better.

needless to say $150 for an auto that a 2yr old could sign is discouraging not quite as bad as cheechoo's tho.

Some mixed opinions here which is great. I have even come to a decision to stop collecting Tavares autos after this his 2nd NHL season as his auto changes.
So as per question was considering Strome but might look at another, even Niederreiter auto is weak and I see Hamonic as well now. Still enjoy collecting Bossy and Potvin those are two solid autos. Maybe a small conversation sports agents should have with their young clients.
I know alot of people comment about ITG not being licensed, but I can honestly look at those old Tavares autos and really appreciate them.
