Am I the only who didn't realize we were picking against the spread? I thought Yahoo was completely screwed up when it said my picks of Mizzou and USC were wrong. Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't make it very clear it's against the spread (and this thread didn't help..."Each College Week, you pick the teams to win and the teams to lose. Simple as that.")

Ah well, I might have done worse if I actually knew the rules...who knows.

I just assumed it was against the spread; if it were just picks, I don't think the spread would have been listed.

I kind of thought that when you went to pick and saw the spread that everyone would have realized it was ATS. College is far too easy to pick otherwise.

I could have worded it better in the initial post however.

Oh contrare...some of the early games are, but there are always upsets and always great games. I'm in a straight up pick 'em w/40 people (for money, ongoing for years, all strong college football fans) and not even a third of the people got more than 6 out of 10 right...I got 8 for the record.

Understandable I guess. I never use Yahoo and on ESPN when you're picking against the spread, it has it listed by the team that's the favorite, indicates in the headers that it's the spread, and tells you on the front page you're picking against the spread...they make it clear what the rules of the game are. The picks page on Yahoo doesn't even indicate those numbers are the spread...if you're not familiar with making picks and lines and all that, there's no way you would even know what that is. There's actually only one place on the entire picks page that says spread...it's at the very bottom in small letters and says "Bold = Winning Team (Spread)."

I know, enough ranting. And by the way jay, this isn't against you or the staff here at all...completely against Yahoo. Just another reason I prefer ESPN...I know, I'm in the minority. Oh well, I still didn't do too bad and now I know for the future...moving on!

Week 1 is in the books. 13-7 to start, after Maryland took care of Miami.

Over at ToonZone, the contest there was also using Yahoo!, but they're switching to ESPN this year. I may still join, even though I'm a week behind now.
