Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am selling off my Ryan Smyth collection and I have a potential buyer for all of my cards from 1994-2006. This probably equates to over 800 cards.
I took out a one month subscription of Beckett to try and put a price on these cards.
The BV of these cards is insane!!!!!!!
I am looking for some help on what percentage of BV is fair to both myself and the buyer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

That's really something that only you and him can negotiate - it depends on what level of pricing you are comfortable with taking for your collection. If you've invested years worth of time, energy, and dollars into the PC, you're not going to want to take too big of a hit relative to a certain BV level. I don't know how much you've exactly put into the collection but you have to make sure that at the end of the day you can say that you're comfortable letting go of all that time & effort for whatever amount of money you agree to sell it for to the buyer.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

usually the SV is about half of the BV...but in a lot like you have, its sometimes common practice to ask for under 50% of the cards value
Please check my inventory before my photobucket!!! It's more up to date!!!

Something to think about, is this person going be purchasing for himself, or as lot to sell off? If they plan on selling it off, they are going to want it cheaper than you think

Well, it turns out there is 604 cards with a BV of $3,784.45.
I know the buyer is buying it for his PC so I guess I will try 50% of BV.
Thanks guys.

Never will get 50% of BV, that would be insane.
Common cards and jerseys so forth might be lucky to see 20%
Limited runs might get 30%
Extremely rare cards might see 50%

I disagree with everyone here, especially if you have put money in, time in, and trades in. ALL of these should factor into your equation.
It seems to me that with a 600+ set of a single player with a BV of over 3K, it would be safe to say that he was a PC player? If times get tough, and you HAVE to sell off YEARS of love, time and investment, DON'T let it go for next to nothing.
Remember you get paid to produce at work- a 600+ single player collection isn't something that doesn't come without a LOT of sweat, cash, and time. Factor in your time- I wouldn't accept anything less than 65% BV, and that would be pushing it.
Get a little back of what you put in.
Just my 2 cents.

And the OP will never get that for the lot. 10-25% BV would be realistic. Smyth is one of those guys that has a significantly higher BV than the SV of the cards. Time and effort have nothing to do with it. BV is out of touch and has been for many years.
