Book Value BV question
So.... when people here stat the BV is $400 or $20 w/e it is, why do they go off of high BV? I rarely if ever see stuff sell for that price.
just wondering

If selling, of course they want to state the high BV
I don't use BV...it's so inaccurate it's annoying

also sometimes you start negotiating (with SV in mind) and both you and your trade partner are way off in settling on a value not knowing that they have BV in mind. Thing is...not everybody has BV reference handy and even if you do have one, obviously not all cards are there so chances are you wont find what youre looking for anyway, whereas we all have a SV reference all the time called eBay.

Stuff never sell for the low price either. Ebay is alittle weird to when it comes to prices. One week a card will sell for $90 and the next week it sells for $15? So how do u put a value on that average them out and what if that is lower than the BV what are you gonna go by than? Nobody wants to trade for less than what the BV is. Well at least I dont thats why they make Beckett for a reference to go by.Every card u can find in beckett if its not listed you have to go by the price of the unlisted stars, semistars or common cards...

I like to use BV for trading, but not for buying. I usually expect to pay 1/2 of high BV when buying unless its graded 9.5 or 10. But when you are trading its useful when you both use BV so you know if its a fair trade.

Wouldn't be great if we could all just trade cards and not need that reference to the price from a guide.
I trade for stuff that I like more than what I am giving up.
I have also spent over high book on nicer patches from a patch auto set and the older autographs from the 90's. Those BV rules for buying at 1/2 BV can be way off low or high either way.
There really is no perfect pricing available for any card, this is a secondary market. You have to know the market and form an opinion of your own for the price.
