miami heat get former laker walker
The perimeter-based Miami Heat have added an interior presence.
The Heat on Friday signed free agent power forward Samaki Walker, who spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Terms were not disclosed.Last edited by aka50cent; 08-03-2003 at 02:45 AM.

Samaki Walker is an average player.
During his 2-3 years as a Laker, he was useless.
He has hands of stone, so any pass to him -- he will drop.
He cannot shoot the ball reliably from anywhere.
He does rebound well; but he is a terrible defender (the power forwards Duncan, Webber, Garnett, Wallace, etc etc all ate him up).
Samaki was given the starting position at power forward, and did such a bad job that the more inferior Mark Madsen saw more time than Walker did.
Heat gained nothing with this signing

Probably. What NBA/NFL player doesn't get arrested?

Madson is also gone, i forget who he signed with though...
I don't see what purpose signing Walker does for them, unless they see having a starting frontcourt of him and Brian Grant.
Walker was an occasionally good shooter, he was good on short shots, and put-backs... Solid rebounder though.

Walker hasnt developed into the player people thought he would when he was drafted #8 by dallas in the 96 draft
First it was rookie and sophmore, then he showed some promise playing behind duncan in san antonio, but when he got a starting job in a LA he showed he wasnt that starting foward...
look for him to be the center in miami until they get someone else and make him the backup

I am actually pretty sad to see Madsen move on to MN.
While Madsen didn't have much ability and was very un-coordinated in his moves, he was a hustler and always good for a few minutes here and there.
I was really hoping the Lakers would re-sign him; but once Malone and then Grant signed, I suppose Madsen realized his time was up
