    Scanner related question

    Hi,
I need to start scanning. My camera is not cutting it. I know most scanners would do the job well enough but I am looking for something that does not take up a bunch of space. I already have 3 printers and 2 computers I really don't have space for something large. Does anyone have any suggestions? Price range would be from $100-$200. Thanks,

    Brent

$100-$200 seems a bit much for a scanner? I had this one here: http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/ca...affixedcode=WW and it was great. Very user friendly, good quality, didn't take up too much space. It did have some difficulty with slabbed cards, but everything was still legible on the card/slab.

That's basically what I use. It's designed as a portable for use with a laptop. Fits in a standard laptop bag (with the laptop), and is USB powered, so you only have one cord to deal with. The ONLY complaint I have about mine (and I have two different brands, a Visioneer and an earlier model Canon) is that it does a poor job with bright orange. Every other color seems to scan fine. It also tends to make foil look very dark because it doesn't bounce a bright light off it while scanning. And yes, they do have trouble scanning things through slabs because the item is raised away from the glass, instead of being flat against the scanner.

Those issues aside, I love mine. They're fast enough for me and they don't take up half my desk.

Nice! Thanks for the info. I was looking the other day and there were some in the $100 range, $40 is much better! Looking into the portable ones. Thanks again,

    Brent

Hey Brent, you can get a pretty good All-in-One (copier, printer, scanner) for as little as $40 at Future Shop.
