Pack searching??

Well i have noticed on this forum that pack searchers are bad and not allowed.
Today i went to the hobby shop where i buy cards and a little kid was in there about 12 or 13 age. He was going thru alot of packs just bending them slighty in half to FEEL?? Well the store owner lets him do it. So i decided to buy a pack and FEEL also. LOL. But all i got was a filler.LOLhahahaha

But the kid didnt have any money and was going thru packs and told me that this is a game used card in this pack bla bla...So i decided to buy it and it did have a game used jersey. HOW DOES HE DO THAT???
So i got a jersey of curt/pedro double swatches cuz of the kid.

Than he told me that the box was dead with 4 packs left.
So he kept telling the owner to open the new box so he can spend his last $15 bucks on a pack from other box. So i did him a favor and bought the 4 left over packs JUST SO I CAN GET SOMTHING AND PROOVE THEM WRONG.

Even the owner was like,honestly man dont get those packs.all GU'ed and autos have beened pulled. But i still said its ok man. ill try my luck and let the kid have his pick in the other box.So i bought it.

first pack of those last 4 packs. i got my first CUT legendary auto. BV$200.
The owner himself said thats the first time he seen somone pull it live in his store. THAN THE FUNNY THING IS
The kids pack had a filler.HAHA

Well im sorry for the long story but my point is...

1.Is there people who really can feel packs and get good ones?
2.Is pack searching ilegal?
3.Is it not allowed by law to go to kmart/etc... and search packs?
4.if the owners let you search packs would u?

5. This isn't a question but just want your opinions.
I think picking random packs and "feeling" packs has the same chances..Dont u think so?

2. No, but it's frowned upon. Everyone hates pack searchers except pack searchers themselves.
3. I don't think it's illegal (could be wrong) but they can kick you out if they don't like it.

My opinions on pack searching (I have gotten in at least 10 arguments on this site about people and pack searching because Im not afraid to speak my opinion):

Pack searching is just wrong, it ruins the chance of people pulling anything from loose packs from Target-WalMart-KMart or even the loose packs your local hobby shop has. The hobby is supposed to be for collecting not to make money off feeling and selling the GU-Autos. Companies make the cards in the packs concealed for a reason, they want it to be so people can get lucky and hit it big and to have a thrill of opening packs, not so people can feel and get the good cards and the loyal people to the hobby get crap from the packs they buy. I hate pack feeling and strongly dislike the people who do it, because they are considered in my book to be complete scum of collecting. I think collecting should be about fun, not knowing your going to get something good.

BTW, who was your cut auto of?

Yea i agree. But the owner even picked packs for me and said if there isn't a GU in that pack he will give me a free pack. And there was a GU . Kinda amazing.

The cut was 1926 Ted lyons.

I gonna try to FEEL my own boxes when i get thm tommrow. LOL.

I have to agree with all these answers, not only can pack searching be done but the experts know rotation as well. They could look at the cards in the first few packs and state, this box as a blah blah in it.

What doesnt help is the rotation on these boxes are horrible.

Example, as it could be considered pack searching I will only give out one

90%+ of the time in 04 Pristine football, the auto is in the last pack. No need to feel anything.

There are many many more set up by the company but I wont get into the for sure ones.

I bought 4 boxes of Donruss Elite baseball and 2 of the four boxes the Auto was the last pack...but another was the first pack and the other was the middle...it was weird. And usually when I get a patch card, I get a decent auto...except for yesterday lol

hey guys i agree that pack searching is ruining the hobby but i mean i go to a shop regularly, and the owner will let people feel packs if he knos them well. well i feel it is cheating but he feels packs out and says there is sumthing in here. so i ususally buy em and yup there it is. I have gottenmany good cardsfromm thisguy feeling packs. I recently got a nolan ryan jersey card. welll sry for rambling.

I'm not sure, but as a shop owner I'd rather have a reputation of being 100% neutral. First come first served..I believe this method would ensure more customers.

WHY would anyone take a chance on word getting out that your product is searched...I mean even his most loyal customers SHOULD question what remains...I would!!

In retail pack searching dosen;t bother me I don;t do it but it dosen;t bother me but in a hobby shop now thats just down right wrong. In retail most of the jerseys packs get picked through but since i changed over to just realy wanting autos it dosen;t bother me as much becuase the autos are harder to find for pack searches unless its a topps pack. NOw in hobby shops that is just plain wrong. for one thing retail packs are alot cheeper and odds are worse but for a hobby shop owner letting people search packs and the owner search the packs is just bad. I have none of hobby shop owners that search they would pull the best packs and sell the cards in there store and it is just bad biz to do something like that if you are a hobby shop owner.
