Pack searching??

1.Is there people who really can feel packs and get good ones?
Yes, it isnt that difficult, there are many methods that have floated around ebay and the card market.
2.Is pack searching ilegal?
Nope
3.Is it not allowed by law to go to kmart/etc... and search packs?
U arent breaking the law, Kmart/Target/CVS etc
4.if the owners let you search packs would u?
I think pack searching in retail stores such as the ones listed above is allright. I think its rather smart personally, certainly saves u money. First come, first serve. But in hobby/card shops. I would never , nor do i even buy packs from shops. I dont trust the owners what so ever. Chances r they searched em.

Another thing is. I think a good majority of people pack search. If u know the tricks of the trade or how to search packs, I just feel most likely u would do it.

I see people say "I went to the "card shop" or local "Target" today and decided to buy 2 packs, 1 of Upper Deck and 1 of Donruss Studio, and amazingly they pull 2 game used cards. lol sorry, but if this was posted 1 time in a blue moon, thats understandable, but it happens more n more on trading card forums. I cant bring myself to believe this unreal FORTUNES all the time lol. BS if u ask me, alot of people know damn well how to pack search but wont admit it. :new_Eyecr

Its not illegal, but the store holds the right to kick you out.

Retail: Yes, becuase its impossible to get anything good out of it.

Hobby: Yes, if the store owner would let me feel packs I would, I mean why not, how many people go to the a hobby shop hoping they pull some good base.

I think picking random packs and "feeling" packs has the same chances..Dont u think so?

Feeling packs increases your chances a lot, becuase your either gonan get somethign good or a filler.

I agree with fact81 that people on trading card sites feel packs but don't admit it. I hate reading how someone buys 3 packs of Studio or something, and pulls all 3 GU from the box. The odds of that are very bad, and well, I wouldn't be surprised if alot did that.

And fact81, the hypocrisy in your last couple posts is kinda funny. You would pack search in retail, but not hobby? What's the difference? Yes, I know retail has less, but first come first serve? Wouldn't that be a reason to pack search hobby too?

I don't know, I don't do either. I'll pick up a couple packs at the hobby shop and buy them, then try and guess if I have anything...like, oh I bought a pack that feels thinner than usual, maybe I have an AUTO! But I usually don't :)

I enjoy guessing AFTER I buy my packs, but I never pack search (which is why I've never pulled anything from a retail box). It bugs me that people do that, which shows what the hobby is coming to, where it isn't fun anymore to buy packs and hope to get something good, you just want to get the most expensive stuff. Its always fun to me after I buy my packs to hope that I got something for one of my sets or even an auto or GU. Just my 2 cents,

I just went to Target today and bought a pack. After I bought it I noticed the end had been opened the slightest bit. Goddammit. The only way I really search packs is by seeing which is the thickest. I've actually had pretty good luck with this. Once I found a really thick pack of '05 Leaf at Target, bought it, and got a THIN autographed card of Bubba Crosby with a big white filler. I think that 2005 Leaf and Studio are the easiest to tell which are the thickest. Once I bought three '05 Leaf packs that looked thick and got a Sean Burroughs jersey, a Kaz Matsui/Mike Piazza dual patch, and nothing. Most of the time though I don't see which ones are the thickest, unless if it's $8 or over because I figure most kids younger than me don't buy those packs, and for that kind've money I'd like to get something.

If you want to feel packs, go for it.. Personally, it isn't my thing.

I happen to pull great cards, but I also spend a lot...

For instance, I pulled a ton of great cards from Studio and Diamond Kings Update while in Minnesota, but I also bought almost 2 full boxes of Studio (14 the first day, 20 the second day), and a half box of Diamond Kings Update (8 first day, 4 second day)....

At my home card shop, I happen to have made some good friends with the counter girl... If there is only 1-2 packs left of something and they have more, I will ask for the other box to be opened... I usually just take random packs or 5 in a row... When I get home, I'll feel the thick packs and put them to the side.. To me, this is fun to do at home.. Half have decoys, some have GU/AU, others have nothing... It's fun that way... Why should I TRY to ruin it for others at the hobby shop? The whole idea to me is the surprise... Plus, I like to build sets, so if I get all base, so be it.

well to telly ou guys the truth i do kno how to pack search but i dont enjoy doing it anymore. i used to do it and i actually got pretty damn good at it... But now i have been a member fo this website and understand that i was ruining the one thing i really enjoy (next to madden). I am the one who was talking about the shop owner who feels packs. i understand you guys wouldnt trust him but he is a good friend of mine and he doesnt pop all the gu and au aout of the box. I have proof of this because he had a box of 2005 spx basketball and you are guaranteed a rookie auto/jersey in the box. Well he wasnt working so i spent about 30 bux poppin packs hopin for it and then bang there it was an al jefferson jersey /auto. Sorry for rambling. I am open for criticizm since i once was a pack searcher.

While pack searching isn't the nobelest of activities, I disagree that it's a downfall of card collecting. Pack searching/feeling/counting has been done since the 80's and probably even before that. There was a system to finding the Billy Ripken 89 Fleer Errors in the rack packs just by the card sequences. You could also find inserts out of the 92-93 Upper Deck Basketball Packs. The inserts had a higher gloss on the card and would allow the cards to slide if it had an insert inside. I used to know about all of the tricks in the 90's. This isn't always due to the feel of the pack or weighing them, but by the simple fact that the product is packaged by machine and some things just aren't that random.

Although, I haven't bought a pack of cards since 1997 or so, it does suck to buy packs when there is no chance to get a GU'd card or and insert...as it was in the 90's when I bought packs. The worst was when the box would look fresh, but it was just two boxes combined.

I guess if there's a way for someone to get over, lots of people will do just that.

i think that just about everyone knows how to pack search or has at least tried it at some point...i dont really believe the people who say "oh im just buying packs and doin it for fun" or "just to see if it would work im gonna search this box im buying" ...i think those are the people who are practicing to get better...and will eventually search packs...face it..everyone wants to hit it big, that's what's destroying the hobby
