    2011 Topps Lineage MLB

    2011 Topps Lineage MLB

    Per Box Items:
    24 packs per box
    8 cards per pack
    2 Autographs per box
    1 Relics per box

    Topps Sell Sheet

The standard sized cards feature a full color action shot of the maned player. Bordered in white, the card fronts have the set name and logo, player name, and team logo on the bottom and top corner. The card backs are photo-less. The background is of the team's primary color. The card backs also have no biographical information other than the player's name, team and position. There are moderate career highlights are awards detail on the backs.

    What I pulled:
    190 unique cards
157/200 base set cards - 79% of the case set
    30 inserts
    2 autos
    1 relic
    2 checklist cards
    1 box topper

    Base card front and back:

    The Inserts: (not all scanned)
    Spanish parallels: Bautista, Dunn
1975 Minis: Kaline, Walker, Fielder, Vic Martinez, Weeks, Andrus
    Diamond Anniversary Glitter: 70, 83, 93, 111, 188, 198
Silk Sticker Card: Crawford and Kaline
    Standups: Rivera, Dunn
    3D: Gonzalez, Longoria
    Rookies: Belt, Beach, Britton, Pineda
    Diamond Anniversary Refractor: 89, 95, 101, 165, 171, 186

    The Hits:
    1975 Mini Relic Zimmerman
    Jonny Gomes Auto
    Eddie Yost Auto

    Box Topper Posey

    ************************************************** *******

Keeping with the 60th anniversary of Topps, Lineage highlights some of the most popular players and Topps card designs in the company's history. For as much as I complain about too many inserts, 2011 Topps Lineage MLB rocks! I also really like the mix of retired and veteran stars. The collation was spot on and no duplicates is nice the card design is simple and clean, but I would have liked at least lifetime stats on the back. The 1975 minis are cool, but I really like silk sticker cards and the 3D cards. One of the autos is a sticker auto but is designed to fit the card well. As cool as the inserts are, I still would have like a few more base cards.

    The Bottom Line:
I give 2011 Topps Lineage a buy rating rating. You will need one box plus some heavy trading to complete the base set for some nostalgia and some pretty cool looking cards, 2011 Topps Lineage is sure to please!

    The Final Score:
    Final Ratings (Out of 5):
    Base set collect-ability: 4/5
    Big-hit Hunter: 3/5
    Prospector Hunter:3/5
    Overall Design: 5/5
    Fun: 5/5
    Value: 5/5
    Re-buy: 4/5
    Overall Quality: 5/5

    Overall: 34/40 (85% = B)

As always I am offering base and insert cards to members here for a SASE

Thanks to Topps for making this review possible!

That sounds like a fun break. I actually bought my first packs (retail) of Lineage yesterday. I got four packs and got a couple nice insert cards. I didn't get anything too special, but I didn't really expect to. However, I really like the cards. I was excited about the product coming out and I think I will try a box now. I have been holding off after hearing very mixed reviews and opinions. I really like them though. The quality is great, I like the old players in there, and I like the retro-designed inserts. Btw, the photography is GREAT. The only knock I have with them is the backs. With cards like this, I would like to see some stats. I like the writing, but some stats would be nice to go along with a short "blurb" about the player, especially because of the retro aspects. I like them though. Lineage turned out to be as good as I had hoped!

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a fun break and a pretty decent box. That retro auto is actually one of the better players I have seen of those. Cool, thanks.

Great review BD and I completely agree with Deacon about the card backs. I'm curious what hobby packs sell for at other card shops. My LCS sells them for around $6 a pack. That just seems high to me so I've mostly stuck with buying a few retail packs here and there.
