Sorry, Guys. I wasn't trying to start any hot debates on the reasons for collecting or having a PC. I am not keeping the players strictly for monetary reasons. I look at my card money similarily to NastyPatches in that it is spent money that I am not looking to recoup. On that note, I think all the players that I have started collecting are worth watching and collecting.

The insight I was looking for is maybe from collectors who do collect some of these players maybe explaining why their PC guys are their PC guys.

I watch alot of hockey and pay attention to Junior hockey as well, but I am the first to say that I don't know everything about every player.

As an example, every thing I read about Brayden Schenn says how strong he is on the puck etc. yet after watching this past World Juniors, I thought that he was a perimeter player. Am I mistaken? I started a PC of him because he has ties to Saskatchewan and has serious potential.

I am looking to maybe understand a little more on some of these players to make a better decision. I read every hockey publication I can, so I am not looking for a scout's point of view, merrily a collector's point of view.

Since I'm an Oilers collector, I would keep them lol

Definitely keep the Brodie collection because you already have a great PC growing of him. I also like Niederreitter. He should be great playing with Tavares. Like the others have said though, pick the players you enjoy watching the most. That's what is important about the hobby, not the return of value.

(BTW, if you're willing to let go of some of the Eberle duplicates, let me know )

Figured I'd help you out with a rather informative post...

    Luke Adam

He's probably my main PC player at the moment for 2 reasons, first being he plays for the Sabres (my favourite team) and second being he's a fellow Newfie. It's great to have a local boy on my favourite team for once, so I've been going hard after his cards. Future outlook wise he's probably going to be no more than a 2nd/3rd line center at best, but his cards will likely retain a little value because of the hardcore Newfie collectors out there.

Anyway, you have a nice start, but there is some tough competition for his cards at the moment, especially anything with a very low print run. Good luck. lol

    T.J. Brodie

Not overly familiar with him, but you have a very good start to a collection and his cards should remain very affordable if you wanted to try getting the vast majority of them.

    Alexander Burmistrov

I personally think his cards are going to become more sought after if/when he improves and because of the relocation to Winnipeg. You have a good start, but I'd suggest scooping up more soon if you plan on keeping him.

    Logan Couture

I'd probably dump him at some point. You don't have a lot of his cards and his value is pretty high at the moment, so trading/selling them would help fund your other guys.

    Zac Dalpe

You have a good start on him and I personally think he's going to become a very good player as early as next year. I'd even go so far as to consider him an early Calder contender. Buy now while his cards are easy to obtain.

Also, I've considered making him a PC player of my own, so if you decide to dump him I'd be interested in the entire lot you have.

    Jordan Eberle

You have a solid start here as well, even a few higher end items. Those 16 Young Guns are a nice investment. lol. Should be a star player, so likely going to be costly to collect, but if you have the funds to do it, do it.

    Taylor Hall

Hall is currently very costly to collect and with such a small start I wouldn't advise increasing that collection unless you can afford it. I'd say dump and help fund your other PC players.

    Braden Holtby

Small start, but wouldn't be hard to expand. Fairly cheap as well. Could turn out to be a very good investment if he ever becomes the #1 in Washington.

    Marcus Johansson

Another small collection, but would be a little harder to expand. Seems to have a lot of collectors jumping on him in hopes he starts to pile up the points in the Capitals system. I'm not sold on him though, so I'd sell.

    Evander Kane

Nice start. Again, due to the Winnipeg move his cards may become much more sought after very quickly, especially if he starts living up to his potential. If you want to expand this one I'd advise doing so ASAP (I'm expecting a big year out of him next season).

    Robin Lehner

Another guy I've considered adding to my PC, but I hate the Sens so I couldn't justify it lol. Seems to have a lot of collectors already and I think he's going to be a star, so that's only going to increase in a few years time. I'd keep him, hoard what you can now while his value is low.

    Nino Niederreiter

He's a minor PC player of mine. Like Dalpe, I think he's a Calder candidate for the upcoming season, however unlike Dalpe his cards are already pretty costly. Great player to watch though, love his style and determination.

If you decide to dump him, I'd be interested in what you have that I already don't have. =)

Brayden Schenn, Tyler Seguin, & Jeff Skinner

I grouped these 3 together because you've got roughly the same amount of cards of all 3 and they're all very sought after currently. Also, all 3 may become even more sought after. I think it's very difficult to build a collection of multiple highly sought after players, not to mention it could get very expensive. I'd suggest choosing 1 of the 3 who you like the most and focus on him, using the other 2 as bait to fund your collection.

    Anyway, I hope that helps.

The Chalk Outline - This is exactly the kind of insight I was looking for. I base alot of my thoughts of a player on their play at the World Juniors and all the player's with the exception of Holtby and Seguin (can you believe he never made the cut) have made some form of impression on me during the tourney.

My views at the NHL level are as follows
Luke Adam - Great hand eye coordination, AHL Rookie of the year
T.J. Brodie - Developing as a two way defenseman and on the cusp of breaking into Calgary's once deep top six. (Is actually my son's PC so regardless of my thoughts, he will continue to be collected as a PC)
Alexander Burmistrov - Great player, excellent vision, used sparingly
Logan Couture - Physically capable of a full NHL schedule and can literally carry a team if need be. Being surrounded by strong players has helped his development and he will play on the #1 line soon.
Zac Dalpe - Good size, strength and vision. He much like Skinner is going to thrive in a weak Hurricanes organization. Definitely a Calder candidate.
Jordan Eberle - CAPTAIN CLUTCH!! Local boy, no way I could let go of his cards.
Taylor Hall - Obviously high end potential. I see him as more of an Ovechkin type leader than Crosby. I am more of a Crosby type fan.
Braden Holtby - reminds me of Carey Price. This kid is a true winner and the only young Canadian Goalie I love to watch.
Marcus Johansson - Started collecting him strictly on speculation. (Think he is a definite goner from the PC)
Evander Kane - This kid has heart. Reminds me somewhat of a young Mark Messier without the surrounding cast.
Robin Lehner - The fact that he plays for the Sens entices me more. They have burned through goalies the past few years and the fact that this kid carried the load for their AHL affiliate and won the Calder Cup and playoff MVP adds fuel to the fire.
Nino Niederreiter - This young fella has some serious strength and some high end skill. Watching him 2 years ago at the WJC here in Regina was worth the ticket price alone. With the young talent the Isles have been getting, I can see him being an integral part of a dominant offense in a few years.
Brayden Schenn, Tyler Seguin, & Jeff Skinner - Hate to say it, but I agree with you. The sad part is that I knew prior to the season that I was going to chase Skinner cards as he looked dominant his last year of Junior. Schenn as I said before, although his stats were dominant at this past WJC, I didn't see him as the type to go hard at the net or get his nose dirty making a play. Seguin showed everyone in last year's playoffs the dominant player he can be. With the B's depth, I can see his cards softening for a season, then he will get a fair shot at top six minutes and they will take off.
