Im in my first year of college now and it sucks seeing all these people busting the Cup. I usually take 50 bucks every now and again and go buy some packs with my buddys at the LCS. That scratches my itch to bust stuff and then I rationalize with myself.

I just bought a Bobrovsky Rookie Booklet for 225, I said to myself, I could take the money and buy two boxes of SPA or a few other boxes and not be half as happy with the results than I am with buying the monster PC item.

Its all a mental game buddy enjoy collecting for what its worth!

No matter how you see cards collecting, in the end, this is a business and company are in it to make more and more money!

Mainly in the 90's. cards companies realised they could create card atribute and add auto or memorabilia. That changed the hobby and like someone mention already, it was a big reason on creating higher range product.

This also attracted the memorabilia collectors. More costly to make cards. More costly to have player sign them, contract with single player is like a player salary and player may ask for big ammount to sign a card.

Some gave us a insight on how much a player can have per auto. Big name can cost company big dollars to have them sign their cards. So this do drives prices up. SOme older player like Patrick Roy, UD for example only seem to have Colorado uniform. Only ITG still seem to have Roy in habs jersey, but for how long. How many authenticated jersey is there out theres from retired player.

All thing that affect price of a product. Lower hand has insert, mid end deliver some auto and memorabilia, high end garantee you to get some sick cards but very few.

Like in every other aspect in life, you need to define what you can afford and stick to this. If you just look at what you can't afford, you will not enjoy the hobby. Even those with a lot of budget, there is no way to get all the cool cards, yoiu can only get so many.

To me, card collecting is something that just grow in time. You can check my collection and think I have a huge collection. In a way, this collection started in 1970, more then 40 years ago. Spending money over these years made the collection grow more and more. It does not happen over night.

give yourself project you can achieve amd don't try to run after something you can't catch, make collecting so much more fun.
