Boston v Edmonton doesn't hold water because Messier is better remembered as a Ranger than an Oiler,

Says who?
Messier will always be an Oiler.

putting Bourque over Messier is akin to putting Doug Harvey over Gordie Howe.
Besides, I value a player that won a cup with his original team (Messier, Yzerman, Lemieux, Bossy, Gretzky) much more than rent-a-players like Bourque, Hull, Hasek, etc.

From a hobby standpoint:
2010-11 cards
Messier Rangers: 68
Messier Oilers: 23
Messier Canucks: 2
I'd say that speaks as to where he's remembered. At least within the hobby manufacturers.

Bigger market in NY, yes, but Messier will always be remembered as an Oiler, not a Ranger.

No he didn't. LOL. He went in as himself. When you enter the Hockey Hall of Fame you go in as an individual, you don't have a team attached anywhere.
You are given a glass etching with your likeness on it, nothing else.
This isn't Baseball.
