Harold Ballards scrapbook
I was wondering if anyone has seen anything like this. For $25 I thought why not.
There was an auction on ebay for a Harold Ballard scrapbook from the 50's. I didn't bid but contacted the guy (former Maple Leafs usher) and eventually picked it up Friday. He said it was from Harold Ballard's apartment. Also got a 1973 agenda from the opening game ceremonies Oct 10th in Maple Leaf Gardens.
Also was given 6 green VIP tickets to the "Loge" which were handed out exclusively by Ballard.
The monster scrapbook contains pages and pages of old newspaper clippings from 1954-55 Jr A (now the OHL) and day by day and game by game details how the Toronto Marlboros won the OHA title, the Memorial Cup.
There are also old articles involving the Montreal Juniors Maurice and Henri Richard, they were in the league along with my hometown team Hamilton Cubs. There's articles about brawls (413 minutes - 1 game), referees being assaulted, and some other crazy happenings, its a history lesson for sure. St.Catherines TeePees, Classic!
My Dad had a laugh because an old cab driver he worked with was mentioned and after getting the boot from the game for fighting and harrassing the opposition, he was eventually banned for life.
Many great Leafs played for this team before moving up to the Leafs.
President - Harold Ballard
GM - Stafford Smythe (son of Conn)
Coach - Turk Broda (he's all over the articles, great pictures too)
Some Maple Leafs players on that team
Billy Harris
Bob Pulford
Bob Nevin
Bob Baun
As a Leaf fan, it is really interesting and feel I have some rare history.Last edited by swats; 09-06-2011 at 04:56 PM.

It may take awhile, but scanning and sharing digital copies of this, is in my mind, preserving history. While a small part of the history of mankind and most will not care there will be a few who will appreciate your find and your effort to share it.
