Question about Beckett Multipliers
When it says say....Red Refractor .4X Basic
That means a $10 Basic card is valued at $14 when it is a Red Refractor, right?
Because if this is true then a $10 card that is listed at 1.4X Basic must be worth $24
I am confused because I have seen 1X mutipliers, which logically would mean the card is worth exactly the same as the basic.
Since they list .4X I assume that it has to be worth more than the Base card so .4X on a $10 card makes that card worth $14 so 1.4X on a $10 base card would now be....$24
so when you have a card that becketts list as 5X Basic should you really be multiplying $10 by 6 or 5?

Unless they were careless with a decimal point, a .4X multipler for a $10 card would mean the card was worth $4. They did that mostly with cards like Topps Micro, which were usually something like .4X or .5X the normal, full-size base cards.
If you're talking refractors, I'd have to say the .4 was a typo that was probably supposed to be 4X, meaning that $10 base card value would result in a $40 red refractor. Their multipliers are intended to be applied literally.....base times multiplier.

If it's not a typo then it means it book $4. If it is a typo with an incorrect decimal than it would be $40. Do you know based on the set if those red refractors are fairly rare or tough to pull? If that's the case than you could probably assume it's a 4x multiplier. If it's something maybe from retail that is just as common or even more produced than the regular base card than that would lead me to believe the .4X is correct.

Hey man,
I'm digging deeper here.
Given your 1.4 multiplied example to $10, in math when multipled together, the number in the 1.4 on the left of the decimal is defined as a complete whole number and the number on the right of the decimal is a fraction or part of a whole complete number.
Hopefully that makes sense thus far.
So when we take the situation you've mention, a refractor that has a base card worth of $10 with a refractor worth 1.4 multiplied to that 10, we get a card that's valued 10 times the 1 complete whole number and then you will add the .4 to that which is 4/10 of the complete whole 10 that's being multiplied to. You can hopefully figure out how 10 broken down 10 times is 1 and 4/10 of that would mean to add up four single 1's to come to the result of 4 out of 10 for the 4/10 side of the equation to be finalized. Then your end number would be correct at $14 for the 1.4 x 10 multiplied.

understood.
i was confused because when the number on the left is not a whole number but, instead a zero, the result must be lower than a whole.
so, I didn't know how a refractor that is tougher to pull could be worth less than the base card.
like when the low price of a particular insert is X.5 and the hi price is X1, I don't understand why you would multiply an insert by 1 compared to it's basic. it simply means the tougher to pull insert or refractor in this case, is worth the exact same amount as the base.
