Nathan Beaulieu says he can cross one item off his bucket list.
“Playing on the power play with P.K. (Subban) is something every kid in Montreal wants to do and I did it,” the 18-year-old Beaulieu said following the Canadiens’ 3-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres Wednesday night.
Beaulieu, who was the Canadiens’ first-round draft choice in June, not only played on the power play with Subban but also collected an assist when he set up Montreal’s only goal.
“I knew I had to zip it across,” Beaulieu said of his cross-ice pass. “He gave me a good outlet (and) it was a great play by him to get open.”
Beaulieu played a regular shift with veteran Josh Gorges and said it furthered his education as a hockey player.
“He talks a lot and I learned a lot just from listening to those guys,” said Beaulieu, who was surprised that he led the Canadiens in ice time with 27 minutes and 15 seconds.
“I wasn’t expecting to play that much but I was prepared to play a lot of hockey,” said Beaulieu.
“That gets you into the game. I give a lot of thanks to the coaches that put me in the game and showed a bit of trust. Overall, it was a good performance.”

I like the kid already. He's got a good attitude and he definitely said all the right things. It's going to be great in a couple years when he's a full-time Habs d-man.
