1 more reason i'm glad to see Donruss go!
Their quality is excellant but is this really necessary? It's bad enough they have so many parallels but to use the same pic for different cards is almost doing the same thing as far as i'm concerned.
Is this really necessary?

I've seen every other company use the same picture. Upper Deck does it, Topps does it, Fleer does it... They're hard to notice but i have like 4 pairs of cards with the same picture.
So it's not just Donruss.

I do not have them anymore, but I had a player (Matt Thonrton) who had the same pic used on Donruss, Donruss RC, Studio, and Leaf. UD had like 3-4 of his same pic on different cards to. I can understand it with RC and minor leaguers, as they have not been around long enough to get that may pic. However with Veteran Stars liek Mattingly?

All companies do it but Donruss did it quite often. I have noticed though that most times, it was with retired players. I have a bunch of Ernie Banks & Billy Williams cards that have the same pics.

I don't think it's due to laziness. It's likely due to licensing costs. In addition to league licensing to use the player on a card, they also have to pay to license the player's image. So the fewer images they have to license, the lower their costs.

S.A.M. i think you're right about that one... which is just another reason why there should be less sets made. the less sets there are the more money they can spend on making the one or two sets really nice. in order to produce so many sets the companies must have to cut corners somewhere like (i'm not sure when they started doing this, but) how now a days the picture they use on the back of the card is just the one they used on the front! they didn't do this when i was collecting cards as a kid. i think it just looked nicer that way, but probably fell to the wayside as production costs rose and the companies had to license more and more photos for their plethora of sets.

Pacific was the worst when it came to using the same picture on 4-5 cards in each set.
