Panini "Patch" Cards Question
Recently got back into the hobby and was happy to see that instead of ordinary jersey cards that companies were now doing patch cards which, to me at least, are more interesting. Recently I have started to wonder where the patches actually come from. I have a Derek Fisher patch card from this years NT and the swatch doesn't appear to come from an official jersey, or at least I can't tell where it comes from. Then today I saw this Gasol NT patch card and I was stumped since I can't find this patch on any official jersey either. Am I just being crazy or have they expanded the definition of jersey to mean anything a player might wear?

interesting question that i've thought about but never really questioned it, I can't see where they came from besides the first derek fisher. I think it's from where the bottom of the L meets the A but besides that I'm clueless about the other ones, they can also come from the shorts

Haha heyyyy buddy. Welcome back to the hobby. The Fisher and Gasol pics you have here are actually logo patches, in that they are actually taken from the logo embroidery on someone's jersey rather than just the normal places they take patches from like the player/team nameplates or player number. Accordingly these sorts of patches go for a lot more and are much more rarer than the common patches. Then there are logoMEN patches which are the nba Jerry West logo patches on a uniform, those go for a lot. You'd be surprised at how far the hobby has come along in terms of memorabilia. They have helmet pieces, basketball pieces, hat pieces, game used floor pieces, uniform laundry tags, etc etc.

I realize that they are logos but I can't seemed to find an offical Laker uniform that ever had a Laker logo patch on it. I know that the regular season uniforms don't since I have a couple. The logoman and laundry tages are different since they are always visible. I am just suspicious by nature.
On the Fisher, I have studied the jersey and there just isn't a spot I can see that has that stitching/backing combo.
It isn't a big deal just wondering if anyone else had thought about some of these.

The first one is from "Lakers" on the shorts. The third is from "Angeles" on the shorts.

Yeah I was going to say that some of the shorts have those logos on them.

They must be older shorts because the most recent versions only have the L logo like adadas's icon on each side and never spell out LA Lakers. Since when did the start cutting up the shorts?

Given the vagueness of what they claim on the back of the card in today's time, the patches they use could be from anywhere- literally.

Panini: The enclosed material is guaranteed by Panini America Inc.
or: The enclosed game-worn material is guaranteed by Panini America Inc.
Topps: The relics contained on this card are not from any specific game, event, or season.
The second Panini "game-worn" claim basically means warms ups, shooting shirts, shorts, jerseys, jackets, etc. They've (Panini) finally started to game-date specific card's memorabilia with this year's Timeless Treasures football. Definitely a step in the right direction.
