    The Cup Drop Off?

I've noticed that since the release of Dominion and Artifiacts the appearance of The Cup cards has all but vanished from eBay. When The Cup first came out I could find plenty of PC cards on eBay. Now they are few and far between. Is it normal for interest to drop off so quickly?

It's a high-tier, low qty product. There's been another high end release, and two new releases for this year's product. Fame is fleeting, and so is Cup availability.
Oddly enough, it seems most cards have gone down in price despite this.

The resale has been horrific. Perhaps people would rather hang onto an ARP than sell if for $12.00.- $15.00. SC Autos not even getting $30.00. Don't know when or if that will improve. Probably wont.

What you see now is the true value of the Cup cards. For the last month people are over-hyping the value and the product.

I am not saying that the Cup isn't a good product but it happens year after year. The nice cards people either have it already or others are preparing for this year. Some are hoping it will increase (I have no idea why?)

Last years product remains last years news. Happens all the time.

You see the Subban, Eberle, Hall, Seguin... selling for these numbers right now. Half way through the season, they will all drop. These guys aren't superstars or at least yet but they are currently selling for that amount. How a Hall Cup APR is the same value as a Stamkos Cup APR is beyond me besides the "rookie year" hype and maybe because he is on a Canadian team.

Remember the prices on Kane, Toews, Price.... they all came down in value.

People only look at the current year stuff.

    ...

As well, there is no perceived value in the product itself. You see 05-06 remaining the same or going up is because the product is expensive to begin with to buy or get because of the Crosby and Ovy effect.

You have the initial buzz when it's released with all the player collector's fighting to the death to get what they want and then once that's done........crickets.

Funny how all pay 1500$+ for Hall /99 redemptions and then wait on lottery if u get a 1 color patch or better.. then in 6 months a 2 color will sell for half of what u buy for today.

I just think with Dominion coming out with such nice cards that the Cup has to compete with another product now. Up till now it stood alone with people waiting for it to come out every year. Then Dominion comes into the picture and the buyers are suddenly split in halve. Plus the fact that this is Dominion`s first year out there is the curiousity factor with people buying a couple boxes just to see the new product.

Dominion isn't really competing with Cup. while everyone is comparing Panini's best to UD's best, they're simply not the same.

    1. if anything, since Cup was released first, there's been less money left over for Dominion.
    2. Dominion with it's abundance of parallels, jerseys, and autos has only been decent by the box/tin. for case breakers, Cup almost always seems to win out (on average).
    3. compare price points:
    -UD Ultimate - $100/pack
    -Dominion - $320+/pack
    -Cup - $400+/pack

Dominion is better than Ultimate (bigger hits) but with relatively the same common jerseys and autos that don't sell very well but is not as good as Cup (Panini really hasn't tried to compete with UD's Auto Patches).

honestly, Dominion is fine where it's meant to be at but the numbers don't lie. in the end, we all win with more choice in products.

but to keep on topic with the OP, the main reasons you're seeing less Cup busted is because the distributors have been holding the product back and keeping the price high. when the prices for cases start to fall back down to normal levels and the glut of cases being held back becomes available, you'll see more cards hit ebay.

Yes you may see more later but yes -The Cup is competeing with Dominion. I dont know about you but most people only have "x" amount of dollars a week to spend on cards. If another product comes out at close to the same price as the Cup and you only have $500-$600 to spend you will probably try one of each where before there was no choice at that price range. Introducing Dominion at the same time as The Cup is cutting into the Cup sales which was the intention of releasing it at the same time.
