Power Rankings: Philadelphia takes flight
BY: Adam Proteau
After a summertime break, THN.com’s Power Rankings are back – and the drastically revamped Philadelphia Flyers are at the top of the first week's list.
The unbeaten Flyers, who take on the Canucks and Kings this week, traded cornerstone forwards Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, but didn't miss a beat in season-opening wins over New Jersey and Boston, outscoring their opponents 5-1. Young star Claude Giroux is leading the team with two goals, while new starting goalie Ilya Bryzgalov has a 0.50 goals-against average and .977 save percentage.

Glad to see that the Flyers remain on top after their game vs. the Canucks tonight. Was getting really sick and tired of people talking about how the team would not be the same without Richards and Carter, but so far things are going well and the new additions appear to be making a positive impact towards team morale and game play!
Really excited to see how the season carries out, and am anxious to see what Couturier can bring to the team as a newbie, and how Jagr's veteran experience contributes to the teams overall race to the cup.
Definitely feel that the Flyers have a solid team this year even without the presence of Carter and Richards, and for all of you doubters out there that have been talking about how they just wont function without them......talk to me when the Flyers are hoisting the cup at the end of the year! There's a lot more to a championship then two elite players. Teamwork, determination, heart, and new beginnings will be what gets us there this year.
Cheers
