Hey guys I have a question about declaring a collection value
I am on SSI (supplemental security income) and just had my yearly review. They asked me is i have any collections, comics, cards, currency. I told the guy I collect sports cards. He then asked me the value of my collection. I estimated about 800 - 1000 BV. Later in the call he told me that the 800-1000 dollar collection would count towards my 2000 dollar limit I am allowed to have in my possession.
He said he was going to send me the report and if i had any problems to call and let him know if something was recorded wrong.
Now my question, should I call him and tell him the cash value? Since BV and SV are very different (especially when you collect Derrick Williams and Tyler Palko) My collection might book around 1000 but i think i'd be lucky to get 300 dollars for everything.
Not sure what to go by, I'm leaning towards the SV but what do you guys think?

Since it's true value (as far as they are concerned) is the cash value, that is what I would tell them.

I would call SS.... I deal with them on a daily basis and if they think you "falsified records" they could pull the plug all together on the SSI.... When you get an answer document the time and who you talked to in case they ever audit you

Always use book value, if they were to value your collection thats what they would use to assess the value. Using sell value might cost you your SSI
