So tell me this, If we have a 9% sales tax and a 9% income tax is that less then you are paying now? Even if you add in the state sales tax (which you are already paying now)?

He did say something that rings true. "Open-mindedness will save our country." From the way things are on the P&R boards sometimes, it doesn't look too promising! I don't think Cain is the most open-minded of the Republican Candidates (see: Jon Huntsman, Gary Johnson), but it's still true.

Did you direct the question at me? You put it out there but you did not specifically ask for my response. I do know about the 9-9-9 plan. I am in favor of tax reform but even if I did agree with his plan I would still not vote for him because he would be better suited to be an economic advisor to President Obama. Herman Cain would make a terrible president.

I don't know, you are the thread starter and you never give any opinion on the things you link. I'm just amazed that you think Cain would make a terrible president without him even serving, yet you think Obama is doing a great job and he has a terrible track record....

The reason why I do that is to put it out there to get the viewers thoughts. I don't want to bias the thread by putting my own spin on it. Once people start responding I answer back. Obama is also doing a good job despite of the circumstances. If he didn't inherit a failing economy, 2 meaningless wars, as well as a republican party who's sole purpose is to see him fail things would actually be much better. Also as far as cain is involved, no one would be a good leader for our country who open advocates discriminating on people on grounds of their religion which goes against what this country was founded on not to mention the law.

Cain was against a national sales tax in the past. Now he wants one?

The 9-9-9 plan will lower taxes on the rich and on corporations, raise taxes on the middle class and poor, and just continue to add to the deficit unless there are major spending cuts to go with it. And as far as I can tell, there won't be. I'm all for a flat tax on individuals, or replacing income tax with with a consumption tax, but this plan is not the way to go. Right now, we need to get the deficit balanced out more than anything.
Cain can claim all he wants that those "invisible taxes" will go away but they won't. Corporate taxes raise prices to the buyer so that the companies can cover their tax burden. This we all should know. But the bigger fact is that laws of supply and demand in regards to price will take over. If the people are willing to pay a certain price for a certain product, taxes to cover or not, why should the seller drop the price?
Example: Let's say it costs $5 to make a shirt. But with corporate taxes coming out to $2 per shirt, you have to charge at least $7 to cover your costs. You of course want to put some money in your pocket, so you charge $10 per shirt-- a profit of $3.
Suddenly, the taxes are reduced! Now instead of $2 in taxes per shirt, you only pay $1, thus making it so you only have to cover $6 in costs. Are you going to take pity on the consumer and drop the price to $9 per shirt? Hell no! They're willing to pay $10, and that means now $4 in your pocket as a business owner! Prices won't go anywhere with the removal of the "invisible taxes."
