    What % TTMs are fake?

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to share something. Whenever I tell my dealer buddies at the hotel or elsewhere about my TTMs they always say they would never trust that to be real. This came up specifically in response to Peyton manning. While I think they are just being jerks, and while I think as a community we do a pretty good job of assessing fakes, it got me thinking. Some are almost certainly fake even the ones I think are real. What % do you think it is? 5%? 20%? More? We could all own hundreds of fake autos.

i try not to think about this although i do agree i think the community here does a pretty good job of spotting & weeding out the dudes. as for a %,i dont really have a clue. Guess its who you send to but i bet its a pretty low percentage.

especially with TTM, there really isnt a lot of preasure on the athlete/ actor to sign so if they dont want to, they keep it, trash it or sign it. With the exception of a few ( Mike Schmidt, Tony Gonzalez ) I feel a lot of the addresses in the database are pretty legit for getting an authentic autograph back but of course, you really just never know.

Don Zimmer for the longest time was hit or miss for either him or his wife to sign your stuff.

On Other sites people claim that Peyton Manning is fake but I look at authentic ones on ebay and they match up.

i dont understand how people consider Peytons returns to be fake. They are spot on consistent with everything from his mounted memories stuff to his upper deck certified items. Next time you see some of those people claiming they are fakes, ask them there reasoning, what proof they have because i would love to hear there responses.

I don't undertand either they look just like upper deck certified items and upperdeck is 100 percent real I would love to know why they think they are fake I am so happy that I own two manning autos he is not my favorite player but you have to respect one of the best QB ever to play the game, I don't get why some people hate him, There are not alot of star players that love to sign for fans

TTM Mannings do not pass PSA/DNA. That does not mean they are fake though.

I would would take a wild guess and say that 10-20 percent of ttm autos are fake. That's just a guess. It could be higher I hope that it is lower. A good rule of thumb when dealing with ttm if the ballplayer is a jerk in person they are not going to take the time to do a ttm if they can't take 5 seconds to sign IP. Also I would shy away from sending to current superstar ballplayers with the exception if Dirk mabey, because do you really think with all they have going on in their lives that they have time to sit down and answer a bunch of fan mail?

Who cares what PSA says, they're getting your money either way, and you can only inspect a signature so much. Point is, Manning or his foundation would not accept thousands of dollars worth of donations from fans and send out ghostsigned (impossible to be stamped or AP'd) when the fans are under the impression they are getting an authentic signature in return.

Back on topic, I'd say very few. Like others have said, we collectors usually spot them. And like Riggs said, what's the pressure to accomadate these requests? "I want fans to like me for it but I don't want to actually do anything for them".. Very few guys probably have that kind of attitude & send back fake autographs to fans.
