    Angry THIS IRRITATES ME!!! Rant!

Ok, this has always bothered me. When someone is selling cards only, and someone asks how much, and the person replys with links to completed auctions on ebay.

First off, If your selling a card and you want ebay values.....PUT IT ON EBAY!!!!! If your selling on the boards, cut a member a break or something, you still have to pay fees on ebay if you list it!

Secondly, Ebay isnt the only thing that determines value, in fact its a good way to determine non-priced cards, but cards sell different EVERY time, different bidders, different sellers, different condition, so going die-hard by ebay sales is not always the best way to go.

Also, A card sold on ebay may have been shilled, may have been a card one person needed for a set and was willing to pay a ton for, doesnt mean that the card would consistantly sell that well.

So if your selling cards and and your in love with ebays completed auctions, cut a person a break if your selling on the boards, otherwise take your cards straight to ebay, the unknown *real* sale value of your card will be determined for you, if your scared put a reserve or satisfying starting bid.

Trading is one thing to go by ebay values because not all cards are worth what Beckett says they are, but if your selling, Ebay isnt the flawless master source of value! :new_cussi

yea i agree. Some cards sell for more even if its not worth more.

EXP. Jim Edmonds Mirror Gold GU'ed bat #'/25 was sold for $40+ bucks. Mark Texiera sold for $11 bucks.

Same card same set sells different. i have had people just post a ebay lsiting that ended at a certain price. That doesnt mean anything to me IMHO. Ebay has many hidden charges like listing fees sold fees paypal fees and shipping.

I respect your point of view.....but when I sell, I also relate my prices back to past Ebay auctions

It is hard to get a fair asking price without doing it that way, I think. BVs are always way to high to sell at, and I feel Ebay gives a member an idea of what the market $ value of the card has recently been.

I respect your view on this, but my question is.....without looking at recent sales, how can 2 members think of a fair asking price?

Ebay can inflate prices sometimes. I agree with that. I usually make sell for the completed price minus a dollar or so, and that price shipped, so I dont add the shipping fees like an ebay auction would.

I must be honest though, it has been a lot harder to think of prices then I had thought it would be. I am changing colleges and moving out sometime within the coming 10 months, which seems like a lot of time but I have a lot of cards I want to move. I will see if I have any refractors that I can send you (free, that is) I need to downsize my collection. I should know this by now, but other then the "refractor" insert label, which other types of cards are refractors? plmk. Thanks

To be honest, I think that collecting in general is still a fun hobby, but when it comes to selling...it is impossible to be in the hobby to make a profit anymore. A pack of cards that sells for $30 will give you a 50BV auto that will sell for $8-$10 shipped. It just seems like a downward trend in the hobby, so I am trying to sell/give away a lot of my remaining collection

I'd have to say that Ebay can both deflate and significantly inflate card prices... I myself just bid big for a Sandberg Lettermen Patch/Auto.. Why? Because I am a huge fan....

For instance, the Chipper Jones Master Strokes Dual GU/AU /5, I just recently sold.. 1 week before I listed it, card 3/5 was sold on Ebay... Ending price, $88... I put the reserve for mine at $75... Well, mine sold for $150... I was absolutely amazed to tell you the truth, I was expecting right around where the other sold at... The guy that bought it, I believe is a Chipper collector because his recent past 40-50 wins were all high end Chipper cards. But the other guy was one of the low bidders for the previous card, and they both got into a bidding war that went from 5 hours before the end, up until 20 minutes before... Each increasing about $2-3 each time... It was fun to watch from my end...

On the other hand, I sold a lot of GU/AU/ Low # inserts... Was hoping to get at least $200 since the BV of all cards was just about $1200, but I actually only got $169... Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose...

Where else is there a place that cards are sold in Ebay-like quantity with each sale documented? No where. Ebay is the best place for getting sell prices IMO. It can't be more current as they only keep them listed for 30 days after the auction.

And there's obviously no Sell Value Guide out there. Beckett & Tuff Stuff only publish Trade Value and even then they're both redicuously off. Naxcom can't even start to come into the picture as most of the sellers there are out of their minds.

Unless you can find another place better then I'm gonna stay with Ebay. You say Ebay isn't good for values but I fail to see where else you expect them to come from.

I also look to Ebay prices when I try to sell here, then I will take a few bucks off. Honestly I try to hook people up. ( I almost always add extra cards etc) But It doesn't matter if you try to trade or sell, someone will always try to low-ball ya, thats why I try to list some kind of reference of a price. If you list the BV, someone will say that "it only sells for....", but if you list the selling price, they will go by the BV. Honest to god, I've had both situations.
I always try and sell here first, with lower prices than ebay, but I rarely get any buyers. I'll get trade offers, but no $$. No offense, but too many people here want cards for peanuts, and it just isn't worth it. I swear to frikan god I once had a GU JSY for $3, and someone tried to knock it down to $2.50 because of a recent Ebay sale. Good God man, it's .50. I just couldn't give him the satisfaction.
I hate selling on Ebay, but most of the time I have no choice. Trust me I want cheap cards too, but I'm a realist.
Ebay is hit or miss too of course. I just sold a card this week that sold for close to $50 2 weeks ago, and my exact card only sold for $25.99. On the other hand, I tried to sell a dual auto here, my price $10 DLVD.....got no takers. So I put it on the Bay and got $19 DLVD....you win some you lose some I guess.
    Just my 2 cents!!
