    Rookie or Not

Ok guys i'm kinda new here so I'm not sure if this subject has been posted on or not but if it has I was unable to find it and am sorry to bring it up again. I know as well as everyone else here that in Beckett and some other card publications. Products such as Press Pass,Sage, and 2004's Upper Deck Rookie Premier are not listed as rookies neither are certain sets such as 2001's rookie F/X and mulitple inserts and game used that appear in a set where a rookie is already in the base set. My question is that even though the card guides don't recognize them as rookie cards, do most collectors view them as rookie cards? I myself have always viewed and first year card as a rookie whether it is an insert or a special set but I really wanted to know what others out there think.

Many people will say that inserts and GU of a rookie in their rookie season are rookie cards. I dont feel the same way, as my feeling is that a true rookie card will appear in the base set. Granted there are sets where the rookies in the base set are GU or Autos, and those are the only exception. In the sense of the word rookie card, they might be, and im sure many people feel this way, but i do not.
