question about the ORIGINAL nintendo system
Hey all, I just "unearthed" my old Nintendo system...sad thing is, I can't get it to play. Whenever I load a game and press power, the light comes on and then starts to blink. Does anyone know what the issue(s) could be.
I'm thinking about taking it apart to diagnose and/or deep clean if it turns out I can't play. I thought about resale or trading, so how bad of shape am I in???? thanks for any help...

You probably just need a deep cleaning or a new 72-pin connector. It's pretty easy to clean and theyre are a ton of tricks to fix your current connector- just look online! I used to make money in high school buying un working systems for dirt cheap and cleaning them then selling them for bank!

well I ironically enough had a "cleaning cartridge" (has a handle that sticks out)...but it probably dried up a LOOOONG time ago.....do you think i could just add some iso-alcohol along the strip and "clean" that way???
*thanks for the rapid reply as well

That's exactly how to do it- rubbing alcohol and q-tips. You are probably gonna have to open that bad boy to get the dust out. Don't worry even if you have to replace the 72-pin, there's no soldering required- it was real simple back then!

Yea that's about right, and if need be you can buy new 72 pins on eBay for dirt cheap and maybe take you 10 mins to replace it, gottamlove the old school games, I just picked up gunstar heroes for the Genesis and boy did it bring back memories :)

If it is the connector you can sometimes repair them with a small flathead screwdriver. May save you like $10
