    New collector

    I have recently started collecting hockey cards about 3 years ago. But there are so many brands out there to choose from I find myself bouncing around from company to company. My funds are far from endless. So I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion in a direction I should go to get the best bang for my buck..

    I enjoy busting score there's loads of stuff that can be pulled and they are 36 pack boxes for 30$. Also can never go wrong with Upper Deck Series 1 which will deliver 6 YG rcs per box, two game jerseys and inserts minimum with lots of bigger and rare hits

    As far as value goes I put UD above the rest. A box of anything can be hit or miss but UD seems to be consistently popular with less of a dip of post release drops in value. As for sets or collecting in general;

    I agree with andrewconnors9 10/11 S1 is a great start. 49 RC's plus a checklist, Canvas YG's and variations to 90 common cards. Lots of inserts and a fun set to put together without breaking the bank.

    For auto's I like SP Authentic, fantastic hard signed RC's and loads of SOTT cards with many different hits to be had. Although more expensive than S1 this my favorite product to open.

    I was a bit all over the place when I got back into the hobby too. There are a tonne of products out there. I had to literally stop collecting certain products and or sets just to keep things from getting out of control.

    As with anything this is a personal preference take a look at whats being busted or previews of different sets. Once you see enough you should be able to tell which sets you are drawn to. Do a quick check to see what the cards are selling for to see if their value is on par with other similar products. Providing it is go nuts!

    Thanks for the help. I was collecting Upper Deck MVP for a while but they didn't make it last year and from what I read there not making it again. I will buy a box of score and Upper Deck and see what I think. I do treat myself to a box of SP here and there but going above $100 is not common. I guess I am a low end guy with high end hopes lol

    There is nothing wrong with that :), I dont buy many 100$+ boxes, maybe one a month at the most. I save my money to buy singles, which in reality is a much better investment lol

    I agree U/D is your best bet. You are bound to get at least 6 RCs plus the game used plus inserts. Gives you a nice variation and you can decide what you want to collect or do the whole set. Always easy to trade the cards on this site. PS. Welcome to the site.

    Up until finding this site I have mainly bought cards off ebay. I feel as though I have done ok there and I am able to key into the main players I like (NY Islanders). But there is nothing like opening a new box of cards looking for something great lol. This site seems like it has almost anything you could want. Gonna be alot of fun looking and searching and thanks for all the help.
