Basketball fans will get the best gift of all this Christmas when the 2011-12 NBA season officially tips off with a festive five-game gala headlined by Miami at Dallas, Boston at New York and Chicago at the Lakers. At long last, basketball is back. And basketball collecting is right behind it.
In late February, Panini America will unveil 2011 Preferred Basketball, the first product in a completely revamped line of products set to dazzle fans and collectors who’ve waited longer than normal for new basketball cards.

The unique Preferred promises to be unlike any other product in the Panini America portfolio as it parlays three of the most iconic designs in sports card history — the triangular die-cuts of Panini’s Choice (formerly Cramer’s Choice), the stunning Silhouettes from the Crown Royale brand and the legendary Donruss Signatures — into a first-of-its-kind base set that includes nothing but autograph cards.
In fact, there are no common cards of any kind in the set. Every card produced for 2011 Panini Preferred, including the 270 one-of-one autographs, is either an autograph or a multi-swatch memorabilia booklet card.
Each $200, four-card pack will include three individually blind-wrapped autograph cards and one six- or eight-piece memorabilia booklet card.
Some of the highlights:

• Every autograph will be limited to a print run of 99 or less
• 10 Autographed Crown Royale die-cuts will feature retired legends

ugh, $200 for 1 pack of 4 cards, thats exactly what i dont like about panini, Im gonna wait and see what comes out of these, but so far it just makes me more mad than excited.

I can't buy at those prices either. I think I'll make my peace with it and just buy singles. It's probably for the best though because there's little to no interest in low to mid end and base. I'd just be wasting my money and storage space messing with it.

You would think that for $200 ($50 a card), they would at least have the courtesy to have MOST of the autographs on card. Also, it looks like there might be a lot of fluff in this set as usual (Landry Fields isn't worth $15). Their products already have very little value for the price, and it looks like they're taking it to a whole new level this year. I'm going to have to pass on packs/boxes from Panini this year.

So far, I agree with everyone that posted. I was considering saving up for it, but its not worth it. For $200 and I get as one of my cards a Luke Harangody auto, I'd be dissapointed. Well not worth it.

I hope the hoops set is good, or they STRIKE OUT this year.

Looks like they're really trying to cash out when their contract is up. $200 for a panini box? No way jose. a Kobe panini auto can barely fetch $200, unless it has a sick patch on it & low #'d.

Will just pick up any Knicks cards that I can stomach the card design.

Looks like panini wont be getting their liscence with the NBA renewed if they keep coming out with crap like this.

They're probably going to be getting the license renewed. Even though it seems like everyone here doesn't want to buy it, and hates it, they still have a bunch of people who'll fork out $200-$220 for 4 cards, and one of them may be a Daniel Orton or Landry Fields auto. They still sell almost all of it.

People are also going to be "chasing" cards like the Legacy booklet of the LA Lakers, and thats how they also get people. In the previews, you noticed all of the cards but the Fields auto were high BV, and cards everyone would want. The chance of you actually getting that is SLIM, but people will buy that, thinking "I hope I get that legacy booklet of the lakers.."
