When you are young, you should tell yourself that every card you add in your PC will just pile up. I have been collecting for 40 + years and if you look at my PC section in the SCF inventory, you will realise it take time to get so many cards. The most costly were not bought when I was younger, I simply did not have the budjet but now that I am older, i have more money to buy cards. In the end, my collection is 40 years of investement and trading. This is how you build a nice collection over time.
RGM81 make good point about super collector. While I now collect Carey price cards, I am only at 19% of all cards produce and in time with new addition, I just maintain this 19% ratio because new cards always come out. But I can tell you that when I show my collection to someone, their eyes do open wide even if I can't reach the super collector status from SCF badge. I still get a lot of reconition from fellow collectors and I am not the biggest one. RGM81 does have bigger collection but I am sure he would like to own a few of the rookie I have that he is missing. The same is true for certain cards he own and that I don't. So in the end, it it not how many you have but it's all the one you do own.
I have two display of him and there is ton of cards I would like to display and end up in a box. So having to many mean you can show them all. Then I also collects the habs I can grab. Often when someone contact me about lower end trader and they do not have any Carey Price I need, then this is when I will ask for habs in return. If I would not then I would miss many trade. I rather have habs then traders. I keep my cards worth over 30$ for Carey price trade and at time I might trade for a HOF of the other players I collect like Roy, Dryden and other HOF to have a much better looking collection.
So the younger you start collecting a HOF, the bigger a collection can grow over time. So I definitly suggext you put a priority on Yerserman but still keep it open for other wings as in the end, you would probably miss out on some nice trade and if you keep only one player in mind, then many trade won't be possible. Think that being young is the best way to llok at aquirering a HOF player cards as you do have many years ahead to add them to your PC and this will play in your favor. I did that with Patrick Roy and now he is second after Price since I started to collect Price. But I sitll do aquire cards of Roy once in a while. Just not my priority any more with Price in the decor. This is how a collection also diversify over time.
Also try to grab base cards and isnert of him. That will help with the numbers. I know I got a good bunch of his older cards low end. I bought for 500$ a colection of a friend that was buying many base and insert of big NHL player. Might have 100 or more. I would need to check and I know they are not in my inventory. But I also do have cards of him. So maybe we can work stuff over a period of time and I could build a list of all the cards I have of him and that you would need and I could keep them for you if we can work something thing out.
I know that everytime I get more card of my player, the fun is there and there are some very nice insert of Yserman, not costly but still very desirable cards of him. Let me know if you want me to add them all in my inventory so I can pull a full lsit of all his Cards I have of him. That would be a great boost to a new PC.
I remember buying a lot of 100 cards of Patrick Roy from a collectors that stop colelcting him and they were all low end cards. Yet the time I sent to figure out the one I needed and to add all these cards, was the biggest transaction I ever done on SCF. I still remmeber the fun I had to add all these cards in my PC.

Thank you very much everyone...I am thinking a super collector badge would be a bit much as this point as my yzerman collection isn't starting from 0, it certainly isnt starting at a few hundred either lol...I am a huge autograph fan, more than anything else...I feel game used cards for the $10-$20 range here and there depleted my pocket, when there really isn't too much special about a regular jersey card. Maybe, I will focus on Yzerman AUTOGRAPHS, so each one to me is a big win compared to just buying loads of random stuff here and there as I'd rather have a displayable card once a month I think. Not spending the $10-$20 oddballs can give me more money to keep an eye out for other Wings too!!

IMO - If Yzerman is your favorite player of all time, collect what Yzerman you can get, within your budget.
You'll be much happier with a few nice cards of Yzerman, rather than a larger amount of 'other players'.

Everyone pretty much covered my sentiments.
If you're in it for a Super Collector badge, it's a ways off but you can do it with time and money.
If you're in it for the collecting thrill, collect what interested you the most and go form there.
Sounds like you are partial to autographs so why not just pick and choose the one;s that catch your eye the most? If you pick up 10 really nice autos a year, those will accumulate quick over your collecting career and you'll have an amazing PC in 10 years!

Prime, I completely agree, very partial to autos and I think I'd like even 3 a year (as they are expensive) and that would be great, I currently have 5 of his including one I've hunted for for 10 years!
Prime also, that Kopitar stuff/story is amazing, I read it and called my uncle right up to share with him (big hockey fan like me)

I recently dumped my Flames PC into my traders, because I found I wasn't getting anything from Theo Fleury coming in.
I have a couple of very small side projects I'm working on, but had to make the decision whether or not to keep stockpiling Flames stuff and let the Fleury collection suffer, or pull the trigger and put my focus where it needed to be.
