    new to hockey

Hi all. I'm Chris. I'm wanting to start a hockey PC and was trying to figure out where to start. I'm primarily a player collector and was wondering if you all might have some suggestions for some less expensive hockey players I could look at collecting. I was thinking of some players from either the Sharks, Kings or Blues. Since I'm fairly new to hockey, I'm not sure on how to tell who the good players are. Any help or advice would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to hockey collecting! There are a lot of great players out there and finding someone you like to collect should be easy. Since you like player collecting, first thing I would do is start with a position. Do you like forwards, Defensemen, or goalies? Once you decide from there you can narrow down your search. California teams would be good price wise because they simply don't have the market for hockey like some of the northern US cities and Canada. The Kings in particular would be a solid place to start looking at players; lots of young stars in all positions, plus Kings logos make for some gorgeous patches (check of Prime B, or Kshed respective PC's for some of the nices Kings stuff around). From a bias point of view I would look at some Buffalo Sabres players who can also be affordable and have some decent young talent. Hope that helps!

I like goalies. I'll check out the Sabres too. Team doesn't really matter. Just thought it'd help out if I picked a couple teams to start with.

Some good players on the sharks are Joe thornton, Patrick Marleau, Dan boyle. Their best young player is Logan Couture. Goalie is Antti Niemi.
Kings have lots of good young players, Anze Kopitar, Drew Doughty, Mike Richards, Dustin Brown. Goalie is Jonathan Quick.
Blues: Kevin Shattenkirk, Chris Stewart, Alex Steen. goalie is Jaroslav Halak.

Welcome to the hockey card world from a fellow KC Chiefs fan!

The Blues are playing really well right now and as a team, they are quite inexpensive to collect. Alex Pietrangelo, David Backes, T.J Oshie and many others would be good options. Good luck to you in growing your hockey collection!

Welcome to the hobby! As others have stated the blues have some good players who are fairly inexpensive, while I know sharks and kings players have some heavy player collectors.

Completely forgot about Pietrangelo, Backes and Oshie. All great young players who are only getting better and would be pretty cheap right now.

Good advice so far. I'd suggest keying on a few players then looking at their stats and other info that you'll find on "nhl.com" then if you want more depth, look at their team website and google them for fan blogs, etc. See if someone catches your attention and then pick one or more players to collect. Once you've got that background on them, following their careers will be more enjoyable/interesting.

Thank you all for your help. I'll look at those players mentioned and post back with what I decide.

If your looking for a goalie with nice cards and a cool looking auto... checkout Cam Ward of the Canes ! Ward has alot of nice patch cards...he is on a team with good players around him and won a Stanley Cup. Whoever you choose you will enjoy hockey collecting...its a great game with the best players , fans , and collectors...Enjoy !
