I personally do not think that this is animal cruelty because the dog was not harmed and it liked it, apparently. I am pretty that there is no way he can get accused after 30 yrs.

How do you know the dog liked it?

I've never seen a dog enjoy being tied to the top of a car.

Besides, despite the date of the event, if this was a democrat are you telling me people wouldn't bring it up? Works both ways everyone.

as far as the discussion of dogs on farms beening seen enjoying a ride on top of a car... are these dogs taking 12 hour drives at what I'd assume are highway speeds (50+ mph)?

There's a difference between a dog in a carrier, strapped to the top of a vehicle going 50+ MPH and that of a dog hoping on top of a car or in the back of a pickup out in the country for a short drive back to the farm house or something like that.

I'f I'm wrong for assuming that these farm dogs are only going short distances at slower speeds than one would drive if going on a 12 hour drive.

Is there a difference between a dog in the back of the truck and on top of the vehicle? My dog rides in the back on my truck all the time... We go down highways, gravel roads, all over the place... I dont think I have had her back there for 12 hours but we have gone 3+ hours with no stopping... She would much rather be back there than in the back seat getting car sick and slobbered on by a 1 year old

Yes. there is a huge difference. To tie down a dog on top of a car is just cruel. I find it hard to believe dogs like to be tied down to begin with. To tie them down on top of a car though is cruel.

it was in a kennel... It isnt like they strapped him down on the top of the car.... Dogs stick their heads out the window all the time and mine reaches her head around the cab s the wind blows in her face... She seems to like it or I would think she would stop

To tie a dog down to a car is cruel, I'll say it again. Doesn't matter if its in a box or a kennel, its still cruel.

I'm sure this is apples to oranges sort of, but would you put a child on top of a car for 12 hours because they "liked it"?

well I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree... I see nothing wrong with it at all unless extreme conditions or something of that nature. As far as your kids comparison... I rode in the back of the truck all the time when I was little... It really wasnt that big of a deal but I guess it is probably more where I grew up instead of what was best for us... When I was into trapping I kept my two dogs in their kennels on the back of a flat bed truck and drove up to an hour each way sometimes in pretty cold weather to go trap... Never had a second thought about it and they always went into their kennels with no problems and didnt seem to mind.

However, I do find a big difference in putting something/someone in the back of a truck compared to on the top of a truck/car. I remember loving to ride in the back of a truck when I was younger, but it'd be in going 25 MPH at the fastest speed.

It was in a kennel, not tied down on the roof of the car.

And I live in bear/coon hunting country and if anybody has seen how those dogs travel then you know this is no worse. The dogs are either in a cage in the back of the truck or strapped/tied on top of the box. Being tied on top of the box is no worse than being put in a kennel on the roof of a car. And yes, the hunters often travel on highway roads doing 45-60 MPH with the dogs tied on top of the box.
