    Tips for ttm letters

    alright i have read things that said that the letters dont matter but other people have said they do. not sure wat to believe. how long should a letter be and is there anything else besides how much of a fan you are and polite manners, anything else that is important? another ?, do some players not sign for return senders b/c ive sent to shaq twice ans the 1st time was b4 he retired and he did sign, after he retired he didnt. also with warren moon i sent twice and same thing happened. any tips or suggestions would be helpful thanks

    Its so hit or miss that there is honestly no right or wrong answer. I have always hand written page long letters and have received successes others haven't and failed where others rake in.

    Its all about feeling it out and developing your own system.

    The only important things about your letters:

    Legible (whether it's written or typed, really does not matter)
    Sincere
    Include the please and thank you.
    Don't use a form letter.

    The older players likely enjoy reading a LOR that maybe a page long but the current players likely only read the first line of your request. With the younger players, that first line may determine whether they sign your item or "pitch it" with the other hundreds they receive.

    I keep mine short and to the point. Usually introduce myself, make a couple brief comments about the players career and then nicely ask if they could autograph my items. I thank them in the last line and sign it.
