SCF Issues and Future

As most of you know, we've had some tech issues lately that have caused some major downtime with SCF. Let me explain the issues we've been facing and what the future holds.

SCF has experienced some tremendous growth over the past few years. I've upgraded the server several times since taking over SCF. We've had some major down time over the years, but have always come back stronger thanks to Luc and Harry, some of the best programmers on the planet. For the past few months we've had some issues with our back ups causing slowness in the site. We've figured out a long term solution that will get implemented this week.

Last night we had a disk failure and I was up until 4am EST swapping out the server. We then had to repair the database and all seems to be fixed. Those are the short-term issues.

Here is what the future holds for SCF over the next few days, weeks and years.

First, we have reduced the size of SCF by 33% this week alone. We are removing non-collector and non-essential parts of SCF. The arcade and other major resource hogs are going away. The main reasons for this are to 1) save resources 2) get back to a clean site focused on collecting and 3) to have a clean site so that we can upgrade to a new forum version of SCF.

Second, we are going to move SCF to a "Smart Server." This will allow SCF to add resources without having to move from one dedicated server to another ever 1-2 years because we grow as a site. It will allow for "resources on demand". I will post up a time, but I hope to move SCF within a week. This will mean 2-3 hours of downtime, but as always we will look at doing it during non-peak hours like 4-7am EST. Stay tuned!

Third, we will be upgrading and adding some great forum features. SCF will have a mobile application so members can easily access features on their mobile phone. Also, we will have a chat system that will be used to do interviews like we had with Dr. Price.

Fourth, our auctions and storefront system will be launched soon. Auctions will be available first with storefronts available this spring. This has been a long term project that is finally going to pay off. Luc has put in countless hours into this system and it is first rate.

So, thanks for your patience during the past few months. I can promise you the entire SCF staff work hard to provide you a great, safe collector community. You are the best community of collectors in the world and we appreciate you being part of this family of collectors. The future of SCF is solid and 2012 will be a special year for us. We will have a great performing forum that is clean and collector focused with new tools that all collectors will enjoy.

SCF mobile is a dream come true! That's a instant Premium upgrade for me and probably many others. Thanks for all you do to keep this place up and running.

i still can't get into my inventory keeps saying The system is temporarily down for maintenance. Sorry for the inconvenience.
