    Darren McCarty on Hardcore Pawn

Trolling the channels I came across this show on TruTV called "Hardcore Pawn". It's a pawn shop located in Detroit. A mix of Pawn Stars / Antiques Roadshow with some sleaze added.

Anyway, who appears in the show but Red Wings Alumni Darren Mccarty! McCarty actually applies for a job at the pawn shop and is hired. I'm hoping that this was a ploy by the shows produces to generate interest in the show and not real. During the show the shop owner says that McCarty was a hockey player, then a sports announcer, then "fell on hard times". They made it sound like Darren was a charity case.

It's sad to think that could be true. Someone so beloved by the city, a professional athlete, would have to resort to working in a pawn shop. So, again, I'm hoping it was a "made for tv" moment. But then again, when you think about Boogard and Belak and the other guys who had trouble once they left the game...

I Live around Detroit and have been to American Jewelry and Loan a couple of times in the past and have seen him working there so its legit. Last time I was there was in September though so if he's still there now I have no idea.

You could probably google the phone number of the store and make up some story about having hockey memorabilia to sell and ask if they have a hockey expert and find out if Darren is still there.
