Hobby Box (which to chose from)

Im new to this forum and just started this hockey card madness again (since the 90's)

so far ive wasted a bit of money on retail packs at walmart (bad idea)
bought a few singles on ebay
and bought my first hobby box - 11-12 certified (got a nice stamkos AU /25)

ill be going to quecan on Sat, im ready to buy 2 more hobby boxes (it will be a bday present) - maybe even 3

so far, im thinking of getting 10-11 luxury suites (looks nice and price has dropped) and 11-12 black diamond
    (or maybe 11-12 artifacts)
    all look interesting.

my question is, from your guys experience, whats the best/nicest sets to get. collection wise and hit wise

am i better off with some older boxes from previous years?
of course im really looking at boxes of 80-110$
    thanks for your help

I would definitely not get a box of Luxury Suite as it usually doesn't come close to retaining its value.

I'd go with UDS1, Artifacts, and Limited. All 2011/12.

^ what he said. Luxury suite is probably one of the wort products to break even at a 50% price reduction.

Remember when it first came out and it was $170 a box? I was so close to preordering a box...so glad I didn't. Probably wouldn't even buy one now at $90...$70 maybe.

wow, i did not know, so there's no hits or very hard to hit ? i liked the look of the card mostly.
any other mid-high end at that price that is good?
limited looks too risky (but look nice)
    maybe 10-11 contenders?

so artifacts and black diamond is ok right?

    SP Authentic for sure.

future watch auto's are sought after by collectors.

Ok , so as far as suggestions, we have:

    11-12 UDS1
    11-12 Artifacts
    11-12 Limited
    11-12 certified
    10-11 sp authentic

I think im going to def go with artifacts and black diamond then and as a third, maybe sp authentic.

However, if i buy older cards (10-11) does that mean by now theirs less hits?
meaning, most are put into boxes when they first get released ?

All depends on what your goals are. Are you set collecting......player collecting......just looking for hits in general???? 11/12 Artifacts is great bang for your buck from Upper Deck---1 auto,2 RC's, 1 RC redemption, Legend, Star, 2 memorabilia hits and 1 parallel SP card.........I find Certified to be a great bargain from Panini.....sort of their version of artifacts.....Base set in Artifacts is only 100 cards (unless you collect the RC's/Legends/Stars as well)......
