Storage, and Slab Removal
Hi all. Just registered. I have two questions for you.
1) Do any of you put a card in a penny sleeve, then a top load, then a team bag, or is that overkill for you? (I like clear plastic, not scuffed and foggy plastic, which enters into my next question)
2) I truly dislike slabs from graded cards. Is there a safe way to remove the cards?

i have found the best way to bust a graded slab is to take a screwdriver, and use a hammer to crack it at the seam. never any card damage for me.

Penny Sleeve in Toploader in Team Bag is just fine. I do that all the time.
And be very careful with breaking slabs open. If you have a few worthless graded cards anywhere I would practice with them first.

floppa21- Why not just trade the graded cards you don't like for ungraded ones?
Always Looking for:
A) Graded Vintage (Pre-1980) (BGS, BVG, PSA, SGC) in all sports
B) Graded True RC's (No inserts or parallels) (BGS, PSA, SGC) in all sports
C) Certified Auto and GU cards of players from the 70's and further back in all sports

Thanks for the replies guys! I only recently decided to get back into the hobby. I have one BGS graded card in transit to me now, a Patrick Roy OPC RC. I wanted to buy graded as it is also authenticated and flipping it for an ungraded would defeat the purpose. No practice slabs so I better get t right the first time... =o| Cross your fingers for me!
BlackDiam0nd, I'm not sure what you mean by PC. Permanent Card? I do like shipping them in the above mentioned packing, but I also keep my keepers in this manner. I've used screwdowns in the past, and I suppose I still should for the higher end cards, but aesthetically, I've found nothing better than the above. It makes storage so much easier on me with a stack in a 300 count box, whereas screwdowns need a separate box, possibly one of those two row shoebox style pieces.
They did not have these magnetic holders when I stopped collecting which was what, four years ago maybe?
An explanation to my aversion of graded cards - First point is the slabs themselves. Overly bulky and easily fogged with scuffs, although I have seen new resealable graded card sleeves. Second, I've seen multiple cards in slabs with a 10 from BGS and PSA, and they were CLEARLY not a 10 with the naked eye alone. This Michael Jordan RC I saw with a grade of 10 was not centered perfect, and it was obvious from an arm's length. I'm sure I'm not the first to think this but, if one slips a $20 in there, will they get a better grade? Will you get better grades if you send in 20 cards a week to be graded as opposed to once or twice a year? New cards from this year being graded... Ugh.

That would be a really bad break if you messed up the Roy. If I were you I'd buy a few worthless ones off ebay for a couple dollars and practice on them first. No need to risk a nice card.
PC = Personal Collection... the cards you keep for yourself, as opposed to the cards you have for trade/sale.
Yeah, the magnetic holders came out only a year or two ago... fairly new.
And grading companies have been known to give better grades to the people who do a lot of business with them. I've heard some stories about this. This could possibly be a reason why these cards you see are better than what they should be.
