    1989 Derrick Thomas Rookie Autographed

Ok, here's the backstory behind this card:

When Derrick Thomas was alive and playing in K.C., he frequented hospitals to visit kids and patients. Well, when I was about 13, he went and visited the hospital where my mom is a nurse. I sent her to work with a Score rookie card of his that I had purchased, and he signed it for me. It reads "Derrick Thomas #58". Recently, I have fallen on some financial hardship, and as much as it pains me to do this, I may have to sell the card.

I don't know if I should try to sell it locally in K.C., or if I should go the ebay route. I don't have a C.A. for the card, yet, but I can get one. Does anyone have any advice on this? As I mentioned, it really pains me to do this, but medical bills that I have in conjunction with a job layoff mean that I need the money, even if it's only a small amount.

I wouldn't go the E-Bay route. In-person autos just don't sell well at all there. I would try selling it in K.C., and see if anyone bites. Maybe have someone try to sell it at a card show for you. You more than likely will do better that way than selling it on the Bay. Case in point:

If you are only looking for $10-$20 for it, go the E-bay route. I would think you could do better locally, though.

If you want the "change", post the story in the item's description and sell it on eBay.

If you want more moeny, PSA/DNA it and then sell.

I don't know how much time or resources you have. Anyhow, best of luck.

    What does "PSA/DNA" mean?

It is basically a way to verify that the autograph is real and also tells you what type of condition it is in.

Thanks everybody for posting that...I was in class!

PSA/DNA are companies that verify the authenticity of autographs. They are widely used as the favored third-party certifiers of autographs. I don't know if Beckett (www.beckett.com) can certify sigs...I think - only the sigs that come on certified cards. (Does that make any sense?)
