11-12 Pinnacle: Nice try, but...
I give Panini credit for going with the "all horizontal" card design, but too many of their photo selections and crop-jobs are total failures. Yes, some of the photos look totally awesome in a horizontal card, but too many others have me shaking my head. What they got right: Here are some of my favorites:

As good as those look, there is just no explaining these horrors!

Do we need the players to the right. Just clutters up the image.

Alex Burrows? Which one?

"Hey Dustin! Over here! Turn around!! Look at the camera! Oh, well, we'll have to use whatever we got!"

Nice shot of the top of Malones head!
And possibly the worst offender....

Sure, I support the troops, but what makes this an "Eric Fehr" card? It could just as easily be an Andrew Ladd or Nik Antoropov card.Hidden Content

That's one of the coolest things about Pinnacle, IMO, is that they do have the unique photography. With most players there's dozens if not hundreds of shots of them doing something simple and basic on the ice. Slapshot, skating, celebrating. Pinnacle offers something different and it's kinda cool. The Gorges card they had in last year's set was from the press conference at the Heritage Classic announcement. I dig it because it's something unique.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Thats what I dig about Pinnacle too.. They try capturing moments that mattered... Like Fehr introducing the new Jets uniforms or Dustin Brown wearing a St Patricks Day practice jersey. Or Alex Burrows celebrating what I think was the Game 7 goal over the Hawks. Or Joe Thornton sliding after he won the series versus the Kings. They are trying to capture something special using photography in a low end release to give it a little more hype. See nothing wrong with it.

Have to respectfully disagree.
I'd rather have 20 unique styled photos than 100 similar ones. Some of your least favourites are my favourites.
The dejected looks on those Buffalo players as Tavares skates past for the goal. While I'd much rather they changed that Fehr card into a "Jets Logo unveiling" card, like the ones found in the early 80's, I'd much rather have that photo in the set than not. I'm pretty sure that Brown card is meant to show off the four leaf clover design on the back of the sweater than burrows.
There are literally at least a half dozen other sets that use classical photographic shots with some limited Horizontal layout. Score, Donruss, UD 1 & 2, are just off the top of my head.
I'm more than happy to collect pinnacle for those photos.
Cheers,

I'm not sure about the Malone shot, but Pinnacle has some great shots on their cards. It's really the only reason for Pinnacle to exist. Love the Phaneuf card, pulled that out of a pack myself.

What about the Dustin brown from last year, with the Joe Dirt wig on?!?!? hahah. I agree with OP, some of the pictures are really hit or miss.

I really like the unique photos in in Pinnacle. Sure, a few could use some tweaking (like the Malone) but overall, they're great.

It's pictures like those that made me love 98-99 UD Choice.
